Bus to Liffey Valley and then the 40 to Finglas (Goes as far as the roundabout at Lidl on St. Margarets Rd.)

It goes via the City Centre, there's no shorter way really via public transport.

239 goes through Lucan Village and the main street to Blanchardstown Shopping Centre, then 17A from there to Finglas would be best if you can time the 239, which you really don't want to miss.

40 from Liffey Valley to Finglas could be wildly different journey times.

For a start under no circumstances would I recommend getting the 40 from Liffey Valley to Finglas unless you wish the OP to lose the will to live - there are much faster options. The 40 takes forever from Liffey Valley to the city as it takes a grand tour and travels along congested roads, and then takes a grand tour of Finglas South and West - the OP would be considerably better off using the N4 buses to the city centre and changing there to a 140.

OP the best option is to take any Lucan Road bus (25/a/b, 66/a/b or 67) to Bachelor's Walk and 140 from O'Connell Street - it's the fastest bus to Finglas and will drop you at Lidl at St Margaret's Road.

NEVER depend on the 17a...from personal experience it's one of the worst bus services in Dublin.
