Just a query which may seem silly but can somebody please confirm what seniors only means when stated on the GUI Opens website. I assuming its to do with age as opposed to a handicap.

Normally 50+ years of age. The father in law plays in a lot of them. Serious value in some of them like Royla Dublin for €30 on a monday.

    Yes, over 50s.
Over 50s run most of Ireland's golf clubs, so they cut each other deals for cheaper golf than the rest of us. Being already the golfing population with the greatest amount of disposable income in the first place, its a real win-win situation for them.

Some clubs I think means Seniors as over 55 or 60.

You make it sound a bit conspiratorial. Seniors Open events are just events restricted to seniors (50+ usually.) typically played off the front tees. In my club they have one a month and the entry costs the same as it does for any other open competitions.

I'm turning 50 later on this year. Can anyone confirm if senior competitions are over 50 or 55 as a few of my friends think it is over 55

It is 50 in my club and I'm 99% sure that is the standard GUI definition.

Over 50 for the Donegal Senior league anyway, they get to play great courses for next to nothing.
