    Hi

Going to the Stephen Roche cycling camp in Oct and wanted some info from people who have done it. I am an average cyclist can climb the likes of sallygap and shay elliot and average about 18-20 kph on a ride from Dunlaoire that would include either one of these climbs. Wondering
1 how do the climbs in Mallorca compare
2 should i bring the likes of energy gels/iso powders with me or are they readily available there
3 i realise you cant predict the weather but generally speaking would i need a jacket or would gillet and sleeves be sufficient

    Cheers Dom

Did this with my 17 year old son in April.

    Think you'll have a blast.

    1) Climbs are all fine - if you can go over the Gap you'll have no problem. Typically 5% for 3-5K. Ride run between 80 and 100K (3 groups)
    2) Bring bars and gels - they do sell them in the SR office but limited selection.
    3) Not sure about the weather - October weather looks similar to April / May - bring arm warmers and light jacket

    Have fun!

I was there last week in October last year and weather was perfect. 20 degrees at mid day, cool enough in the evenings. wore a light base layer and had rain jacket in the back pocket. but never used it :) *

Brilliant spot for cycling. some really nice long climbs at easy enough gradients

Very jealous. Did it last week of October last year, and really enjoyed it. As stated, you will have no issues on the climbs, but they will test you. weather was perfect, but I think we were lucky, I would prepare for rain, just in case.
They always stop mid morning for a coffee and pastry at fantastic off-the-beaten track cafes, so while I brought gels, I thankfully did not really need them that much.
The hotels are located just outside the Santa-Ponsa-Shagaluf ghetto. This is end of season so less "c'mon you Spurs" action, but the strip is still nasty. Strongly recommend getting on the bus and going into Palma in the evenings. It is a really beautiful city with Spanish flair of tapas and people watching. Very impressive marina full of aircraft carrier-sized yachts.
    I could go on....

The strip is just cheesy bars which are dead at that time of the year. The food along there is just ok, but you can get a bus outside the hotels into Palma for about E2.25 (if I can recall), and they run every 15-20 minutes or so. The trip is about 25 mins and your dropped at the port or near the cathedral. It's a short walk up to the Ramblas area..
