classic, did the winner not kind of block the chaser at the finish?

Why does it not surprise me this kind of docuhebaggery took place in a triathlon?

Looks like the guy in 2nd had no problems with it, maybe he knew it was only close because the winner had slowed down so much. That said, the winner definitely went to block him (and the guy in second stopped).

Edit: Actually, you can see the guy in second slow down a lot before the winner even notices him, clearly he'd decided that he wasn't going to try to sneak it on the line. Good sportmanship from him, which puts the other guy trying to 'block' him into even worse light...

I think its pretty ridiculous carry on to be honest.
I'll race to the line no matter what, and if the muppet in front of me slows down and loses out to me, then tough.
Whether that's for 1st place, 101st or whatever, it doesn't matter, its still a race. In fact, if I was ever in a position to be winning a race I sure as hell wouldn't be walking over and back high-fiving some kids in the crowd ahead of the line.
And if I was the guy sprinting in, I would have raced straight through his outstretched arm & won the race.

I'm sure somebody will pop up the video of John Treacy pipping Steve Ovett in a 5k in crustal palace in a minute :)

When I was in secondary school there was a guy I use to race over 1500 who use to tumble across the finish line. He was good enough to have enough of an advantage to do that. One year he did it but mistimed it and didn't actually cross the line and another guy beat him to the gold. It was hilarious :)

It's common enough in triathlons actually, I think the Brownlees did it during the Olympics ? I can't check youtube as the manic Olympic organisers seem to have any sort of Olympic video removed from it.

You mean trying to block someone, or celebrating early?

triathletes- taking themselves wayyyy too seriously since 1993. Like shooting fish in a barrel (albeit an "elite" one)

Are they actually 1st and 2nd? I don't think so.

Well the 'tape' is still up, and there's enough celebrating from the winner that you'd hope he was first...
