Advice on this lens

    Hi All,

I seen this lens on grabone which from some research seems like a good deal and a good lens. I am an amateur photographer with a canon 60D. I have a few lenses but I am wondering if I need this lens considering I have the following 2 lenses that may cover all this can do. I have the Canon 50mm F:1.8 Lens and the Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS EF USM Lens. I really am trying to find my main area of interest but I like shooting landscapes, portraits, sports photography (have another lens for that), wildlife and night photography at the moment. Its a fantastic hobbie for me.

Just hoping someone with greater experience could give me advice on this.

    Thanks in advance

Only if you feel your missing out on a stop of light whilst needing the zoom, if you did indoor low light sports photography. Or if you feel that the 24-105 on the crop body doesn't get you wide enough for some of your shots. I have a 17-40 f4 and when i put it on the 7d i find it covers a good range.

Just saw this post now, hopefully you haven't bought it yet...

I've 24-105mm on Canon 60d too, since it's a crop sensor and an EF lens, that brings the zoom up to about 38.4mm-168mm.
This lens is a dc, so made for crop, so you get an equivalent of 17mm.
I have the 18-50 2.8 non os (image stabilization) and would generally have used it indoors at parties or the like, where needed that extra little bit of wideness.

Never had any problem with it and does cover a range that my other lenses fell short.
You would find yourself using it in a few places that you wouldn't use the 24-105.
Saying that i would expect the Canon l 17-40 to give a better photo if you didn't need the extra stop to 2.8, and extra stop(s?) from os.

Now... this deal, I've been burnt once out twice with these daily deals... (most recent buying a deal for an 800e mattress for 280e, and now when I look, every other website has it for about 230/240e... grrr sorry :-) still fresh)

So I am more vigilant looking what "deals" can be bought for. In this case, Amazon is cheaper by a little bit.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B003A6H27K/ref=pd_aw_sbs_1?pi=SL500_SS115

So... if you think you would use get the lens but not from the deals site.

Try a sigma 10-20mm for wide - I got one and its fantastic. I also have the 24-105 and on a crop its not nearly wide enough. It's the perfect lens on a full frame, but there is no real equivalent of wide to zoom for a crop.
