An Irish world record holder for the marathon.

I just came across this, It is age specific (57) world record, which is some achievement.
The older I get the more I appreciate just how awesome this is. I have to say I find it very inspiring.

Excellent stuff. Christine won the Dublin marathon in 1990 and 1991. Her winning time in '91 was 2:35:56 and was a course record at the time. This wasn't bettered until 1999 when Esther Kiplagat of Kenya lowered it to 2:34:24.

Surprising that the men's records for those aged 14, 15 and 41 have stood for so long, 1966, 1972 and 1974. The last one really surprises me, would have thought it a much more popular sport for the middle aged now than then, and there would be a lot more challengers.

What surprised me most was that in the 70s they had boys and girls as young as 5 running marathons! Mad stuff.

So a 6 year old girl and a 74 year old lady have both run faster than my one plod over the distance. If that is not embarrassing then I do not know what is!

Most training days I feel like a 74 year old, But I just can't run like one!

Ed Whitlock is a legend. He's still setting a new age group world record every year as long as he's not injured.

Her sister runs with our club. Won the national 1/2 in her category as well as the 3 race series races to date. She knocked out a 1:45 1/2. Not bad for someone at 63/64.
