I'm heading to a meeting tonight organised by the Dept as part of their "consultation" on the new round of the Rural Development Programme. Now in fairness this is my bread & butter - i did a degree and a masters in Rural Development and my jobs been in it in various forms since i came home. I've also been lucky enough to get grant funding out of them to the tune of approx £70K for projects and equipment for the farm and as i say it pays my wages. There are parts of it that are very good and parts of it that are a complete and utter waste of money and time and as someone said in another thread it's all about committeeeees.
From what i gather is that the Dept here are likely to copy a lot of what has been done with ye recently ie. discussion groups etc.

Most posters on here seem to be strictly farmers be it full time or part time with an on farm or off farm job, but has anyone diversified or received many benefits from Leader or the Rural Development Programme or would you rather there was no voluntary modulation at all?

IMV Leader and Rural Development Programmes are poor money spending by those in the know. They probably give most bang for their buck with regards keeping Dept/Council/*insert other parasites* busy with paperwork, long drives and decent dinners.

I went to an options for farmers course last Nov and there were 2 men from leader giving a talk, they were crying out for people starting new business to apply for funding as 2013 could be the last year and they wanted to use up the funds. I rang leader about a business idea I had and got shot down before the phone call ended. I was told someone else had the same business 30 miles away:confused: There was a farmer near me starting an open farm even though there is an open farm 6 miles away from him, then again he was spending 2 million on the project.
