The BBC have released a film showing a driver's eye view of a non-stop trip (speeded up!!) from London to Brighton in 1953, 1983 and 2013.

It's well worth a look just to compare the three - here's the link:

Nice piece would be great to watch something like that in real time rather than sped up.

this is similar, but it starts at Blackfriars and only joins the Brighton line at East Croydon/Selhurst. I always think the time it takes to get from Blackfriars to London Bridge puts the wait to get into Connolly into perspective!

This is from Victoria to Gatwick at least.

    Amazing stuff.

Imagine a comparative of Harcourt Street to Bray for the same years!

It's probably worse northbound! Lines have to filter through a singe pathway across Borough High Street onwards to 3 separate main line stations - Cannon St, Blackfriars and Charing X. The new viaduct is in place to double capacity (been there 2 years or so, quite amazing watching it being pushed across the road very slow) but rails not yet available. It will be a sea change for Southeastern and FCC when it's operational. The number of trains is in a completely different league tothe Dublin loop but the same capacity!
