Defy1 bottom bracket alternatives

    Hi guys,

    Hope for your kind advice.

Have spent a bit of time to actually identify the BB on the 2013 Defy1 and it seems to be Shimano press fit BB71. I'd be happy to be corrected here because there is no certainty. The crankset is Shimano R565.

I'm trying to find an alternative BB that would be a straight fit as I think the bracket has developed a mild creaking noise on load when I stand or go uphill, it has about 2K km on it. As I understand, the thing is not serviceable and according to other forums the BB isn't great generally. It could be something else, but after thorough checking and tightening here and there I can't see what else could produce this noise.

Is there an alternative on the local market available to replace it, or should I just go and get another BB71 or BB91 for that matter.

    Thanks in advance

Thank you, interesting read. I think I'll just replace it with the BB91 and hope it serves a bit longer.

    Kind regards

Makes you wonder about press fit BB altogether...

I must admit I'd rather a standard BSA screw thread BB... cheap to replace and more than enough for my cycling needs.

Why not just go back to the shop where you bought the bike from and let them sort it out... surely a creaking BB is faulty in some way (bad fit, damaged etc) and therefore covered by their after sales care.

OK someone will claim that this is down to wear and tear but creaking BBs at such an early age in a bike's life is pretty poor.

Might try that sure, thank you, it's 2013 defy 1, so should have the warranty left. Was interested in fitting the BB myself just out of pure interest - to get more exposure in this bike area.

As suggested in one of the comment on the link, may try the loctite too or suggest the shop to use it.

    Best regards

Just a small update. Dropped the bike to the LBS, they've replaced the BB and the creaking is now gone. Happy.

Just FYI, the original BB was Shimano BB71, replaced with BB91.
