There is so much variety here that it really depends on what you want to do - eg a beautiful spa, close to a city, activity?

Hotels off the top of my head that look lovely at Christmas are The G, Galway, the shelbourne and Clontarf Castle in Dublin, Carton House, maynooth.

    Are you from Ireland

you're only a couple of hours drive from anywhere so you could get a list of 50 places no bother. Id go with a 2 stay location. Dublin really is fantastic around christmas with lights and shows and atmosphere and sales.

3-4 days in the metropolis followed by somewhere quiet in the country.

Be very careful how you plan and Phone/E-mail hotels about their Christmas openings as some CLOSE for Christmas Day and Stephens Day.

I'd still do the West Coast Tour from Connemara down. As you might arrive into Dublin you can spend a few nights there then across to Galway, out to Clifden and consider a castle stay like Ashford Castle, then down the coast towards Spiddal and into Galway City for 2 nights then down into Clare where you can do a driving day, stay in Doonbeg Resort, then over to Dromoland Castle by Shannon, day in Bunratty, over to Adare in County Limerick and stay in Adare Manor and south West into Kerry following the N69 into Ballybunion and skip along the coast roads in Tralee, Dingle over to Killarney(few nights) whilst touring the Ring of Kerry and either into Cork or back to Dublin for your flight maybe "Kissing the Blarney Stone" in Cork on the way home.

*All Assuming your travelling into Ireland from Abroad and Assuming that you're splashing out on Accomodation being your Honeymoon. :pac:

If you're going south, investigate cottages for couples. I've never been, but I've heard great reports

Don't, they're dirty and the owner is not very pleasant. Yes I've stayed there.

Am interested in a staycation honeymoon as well. We were thinking of the Europe Hotel in Killarney to spoil ourselves for a few days then onto a self catering cottage/glamping in West Clare/Galway.. I have heard very mixed reviews about both though so I think its a case of you get what you paid for. Anybody stayed or ever been to the Europe,, it looks stunning altogether!!!

I've been in the presidential suite of the Europe hotel and WOW. It was one of the last properties in Ireland where money was lavished on before the economy imploded. I didnt stay in the room but the GM allowed me have a snoop in it. The views from lake view rooms are just amazing.

I also liked the Brehon in Killarney and the four poster room is great but the proximity of the hotel to the busy road is annoying.

For me Doonbeg is where its at. And they have cottages for self catering.
