Fancy becoming a Movie Mogul on the cheap?

I suppose it was inevitable given the number of low/no budget Irish movies that I have watched in recent months that I would eventually want to join in; and now I've found the perfect way. Fund It http://www.fundit.ie/ is a fundraising platform for movies and a lot more besides. It allows the small investor to pledge money towards projects of their choice in return for various rewards. With movies this can include such things as the donors name in the credits, free DVDs, movie cells and in some cases even a dividend if things go really well. Not quite the same as owning a share in a company but potentially a bit of craic.

There's not a lot available at the moment but one that caught my eye was <snip> which I believe it had its first showing in Belturbet, Co.Cavan, on the 24th August - and is looking for further funding to promote on the festival circuit and go for a DVD release. Films on the Northern "troubles" always interest me so I'll probably give it a lash. Anybody else have any thoughts on this? Better than me giving the money to Paddy Power anyway. :D

You can't offer a financial return though so you can't really say it's becoming a movie mogul.

    It's not investing, it's donating.

It's a good idea alright though - lots of great projects are funded this way but I think there will be a saturation point given that big folk like Zach Braff are using crowd-funding now.

What's your role in the film? Did you write it?

No role whatsoever, just fancy a signed DVD and my name in very small lights.

Sorry OP, but this thread really belongs in Film Production where crowd funding links are against charter (people were spamming them all over the place last year), so I'm afraid I'm going to have to lock this and delete the link.
