    Hey everyone,

I am looking for a transmitter that I can connect to my camera and wirelessly (without cables or internet/wifi) connect to my laptop or tablet to send photos to it. My laptop would be windows 8 and my camera will hopefully be a canon of some sort,! It would need to be fast at sending the photos which will be pretty large in memory terms.

Any advice at all is much appreciated!

    Thanks,

Unfortunately its a bit out of my price range :P I was looking more at getting the much much cheaper canon EOS 1100D with 18-55mm lens. It would mainly be used to take family photos outdoors! Then use a transmitter to send it to a laptop connected to a HITI printer!

I was looking at that but as far as i can see it needs internet to work whereas I would need the camera and laptop to establish their own connection completely as there would be no broadband!

According to the website the home wifi is not needed:

Plus, when you're out of network range, Pro X2 creates its own WiFi to deliver content directly to a smartphone or tablet.

Our range of wireless flash memory cards includes Secure Digital and miniSD cards. The WiFi cards add wireless connectivity to PDAs and SmartPhones which have Windows Mobile 2003, Win CE 4.2, 5.0, or Linux V2.4.18 operating systems. The Wireless cards are available in IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11b/g and IEEE 802.11g network standard support. Small, lightweight, and durable the WiFi cards have both Infrastructure and Ad-Hoc configurations.

Basically, you take photo, and send it to your laptop wirelessly. But big photo may take a bit. Why not use a cable, and/or the SD reader in the laptop?

well syco its because i plan on taking photos of families continuously while another staff member prints and packages them. If I had to connect the camera to the laptop it would take to long going back and forth! I need to be able to take photos and instantly send them off to be printed immediately so a cable would be too akward!

Basically I would be looking for the same type of transmitters used by roving photographers at theme parks.

The Eye-Fi doesn't need Internet access, just a wifi connection between it and the computer. A mobile hotspot can be configured to do just that, and it'll happily run on battery for hours. Alternatively, a bridge unit would give you even greater range, but will require power.

Or, cheapest of all; a runner.

Tethering Software is also an option. Basicaly you run a long USB to the Camera and take your photos using the laptop. Images can be printed directly. Very handy for creating a Photo booth scenario and deffo the way to go if your camera is going to be in a fixed position on a tripod.

Great ideas! The camera will be moved around Unfortunately so I coulsnt run a cable from it although it would be handy!:does anyone have any experience with the eyefi? Are photos sent instantly or does it take a while for them to transfer? Thanks everyone

my eyefi arrived in the post this week and just had a quick go at it, will but it to the real test next week, it also holds the photos like a standard card so it's a good backup as well
