Mondeo 2.0 Diesel

Hi all, I'm thinking of buying a 2010\2011 Mondeo 2.0 Diesel (140 BHP I believe), having spent too many years with the practicality of a 7 seater – I now found myself looking for something big enough to essentially cater comfortably for 3 adults in the back, the Mondeo seems like the widest and most comfortable I’ve come across in my price range and the tax isn’t too bad on the 2.0 Diesel. Something like this.
Anything I should be aware on these problem wise? Thanks in advance.

Edge is the base UK model, would aim for a Zetec or Titanium over it myself as they are much better equipped.

Ya the edge spec is poverty altogether. Titanium X, Titanium or at least a Zetec is a must imo! Remember that a minor facelift was introduced in 2011, whether or not that bothers you...
Something like this would look better on the eye http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/ford-mondeo-titanium-x-price-drop/5067936

Would you consider a slightly older 5 series

Thanks all, hadn't considered the Superb at all but its a nice motor - will take a closer look at them too. Mrs. Thoughts wouldn't allow a BMW in the house I'm afraid!

What's the diff between Mondeo Edge and Zetec ? Is it just interior ?
I'm looking at 2011 Edge 2 ltr (140BHP) from the UK. The price diff isn't too much between 2010 zetec and 2011 Edge but Edge is the newer model of mondeo.

    Any advice ?

Edge has plastic wheel trim, black exterior door handles, electric front windows and manual air conditioning.

Zetec adds rear electric windows, colour coded door handles, cruise control, climate controlled air conditioning, electrically adjustable driver's seat and alloy wheels.

true, but a lot of uk edge spec mondoes had cruise and in dash sat nav, for the rep market there, they can be great value. One thing to watch out for on these is holes in the carpets in the footwells (poor quality carpet), and noisey power steering and clutches and flywheels (like them all)

I'd still get a Zetec as a minimum if importing from the UK, not least because if my memory serves me well, the UK spec Zetec is better than the Irish spec one. Really though if importing from the UK you should be aiming for a Ghia/Titanium or a Titanium X spec - Zetecs are very common in Ireland after all so I don't see the point of importing a car if you can get almost the same thing in Ireland.

    Thanks for the replies.
I'm due to see one tomorrow and just had a look at the pix, handles are black and also no alloys, although does say electrics all round, I assume that means the back. Checked alloys and tyre price, €850 for 17" alloys.

I'm not importing myself (should have said), I'm looking at cars in Ireland from dealers, most of the 2 litres are from UK.

I also noticed that some of the cars don't have the TDCi badge or the Zetec badges on the back when advertised as such.
    Is that usual ?

Some garages just use pictures of similar cars that they had for sale previously. Thats what the garage did where i bought mine anyway, the car you're going to see mightn't be in the country yet if its an import, so the car in the picture mightn't be even the one you're going to look at.

I rang and asked the dealer earlier, he said sometimes they don't always have the badges.
Badges don't really bother me but I do want the car to be what it is supposed to be as I will probably only keep it for 2 years and upgrade again, but I don't want any problems at all when I go to sell/trade in.
Also important is the BHP to me Edge has 140, think the zetec has 125 but I'm going to check that with another dealer tomorrow. Someone above pointed out all the differences with specs on the edge compared to zetec and he is right. Glad I posted here.
I want to buy the car in the next 2 weeks so I'm really just trying to get all the sound advise I can and what to look out for and best value for my money, never spent this much on a car before so need to be careful.

The 2.0 TDCi was 140bhp but was also available in 115bhp for a short time and not sure if that version was sold in the UK. The old 1.8 TDCi was 125bhp.
