Hi, I have found a classic car I would like to buy but the car is on Northern plates and has been in the south since 2006 and not used or registered.

    Its a 1963 MK 1 Cortina.

If I buy this car will I be liable for penalties because this car was never re-registered on time?

The guy selling the car is not willing to give me a receipt of sale as he does not want to be hassled by the VRT staff for not registering the car when he should have!

I apologise if this has already been asked before,Im new to Boards.ie

Thanks for looking and any info greatfully appreciated

I'm not sure, he has all the UK documents including a Permanent Export form.
I think he is just afraid he will incur penalties for not registering it within seven days of the car coming into the south.

Was it not €50 or so to register it on 06? Very odd that he didn't.

Tell NCT/VRT that the was'nt roadworthy until now.
You can write a receipt yourself, (according to sign in NCT/VRT office
    Bring along with the receipt-
    V5.
    ID,
    PPS No..
    Proof of address (utility bill)
    €200.
As it does'nt have a current MOT they may check it for roadworthiness, on one occassion this involved me moving the car to and fro on a trailer.
