Hi forum, looking at treating myself to a new watch, I like a decent sized watch, with a metal braclate.

I'll admit I'm a bit of a style over substance man, so quartz, mechanical etc isn't a deal breaker for me.

This watch would be my every day watch for the office and weekends etc.

I have a nice Tissot PRC200 with a black leather strap that I use as my dress watch(I know a lot of you wouldn't regard it as a ''dress'' watch, but I love it)

    I've a G-Shock for rough work/beater/Holidays, and a small little Speedo watch for Swimming/Gym.

I've kinda narrowed the search down to two choices.

My fav would be the 'Hamilton Khaki ETO', grey. Link

I just love the look of it, have yet to actually try it on though. Would be nice to hear your opinions, experiences.

Another watch that I like the look of, and it would have been my favourite choice before I seen the Hamilton was the 'Tissot T Touch Expert', Link

Being honest, the T-Touch features would be pure wasted on me, all I would use is the Baraometer occasionally and the stop watch on the LCD part. I just like the brand of the watch and the look of it. I believe its a bit piky with regards changing the battery etc, you would need to bring it directly to Tissot as opposed to the local watch shop.

So what do ye think, Hamilton or Tissot.

Ye have an idea of the style I'm into, any other suggestions, am I missing out on a potential beauty?

I'd rather sway away from Citizen/Seiko, only for for the fact that they are a very popular makes. I'd say 7/10 of watch wearers in my office wear them, I am currently wearing a Citizen Eco Drive Chrono as my everyday, so I fancy the change.

    Budget is 800.

You say you're more style over substance kinda guy ..€800 will get u a nice new but older model tag heuer online.

Of those two, I'd have the Hamilton. If you're not picky about the movement, then they've a good few options that'll give you some change from your 800. This, this and this for example.

If you're looking for a brand that people will recognise, that'll rule out a few nice watches that'd be in budget. As scwazrh said, a "new old stock" Tag Heuer (e.g. an F1) should be in budget. Personally I don't think their lower end watches are great bang for buck, but they look OK and have a brand name everyone knows.

    Is second hand an option?

The PRC200 on leather is a cracking looking watch by the way; good choice. I'd probably have kept mine if it was just a fraction bigger.

Thanks Eoin, I got the PRC as a birthday gift from my Dad, and believe it or not, I actually wan't too keen on it at first, simply because I didn't like black leather straps, I was always mad about the face. But the more I started wearing suits and shirts more often I grew to love it. I kinda save it for special occasions and meetings now.

Believe it or not, I'm not looking for particular 'flashy' watch either, I'm not a big lover or the Tag's at all. Love their high end stuff though

I suppose what Im after is something that lads who are into their watches(we're call them Gentlemen!) would easily recognise that the vast marority of people who use their phones to tell the time would have a clue about..., ya get me? You wouldn't believe the amount of people after I showed them the Hamilton for their opinion who asked who the feck are they!

I'll admit I'm a a victim of marketing, I'd love a brand that looks well, and has a bit of story/tradition behind it. I like Chronos, but I'd hate a very busy face too.

I've a leather strap watch already, so I want something different. I'm looking to replace a metal braclet with another one.

With a bit of homework you could get a Raymond Weil online. Most people know the brand and class it as a high end watch even though most of them are a quartz movement in a fancy case.
Know u said you're now mad about tag , but something like this one http://item.mobileweb.ebay.ie/viewitem?sbk=1&nav=SEARCH&itemId=221267619875 is good value for a well known brand name

^ That's actually one of the nicer versions I've seen.

I think a quartz Omega Seamaster will probably be a little over your budget (I'd say slightly over 1000 is still the going rate 2nd hand). Shame as that might tick all the boxes for you. Longines is another nice brand, but not sure what you'd get for 800.

I'm not surprised that Hamilton aren't that well known - I have their GMT 2 model, and not many friends recognise the brand; despite knowing both Tissot and Omega. All three are owned by Swatch and Hamilton sits somewhere in the middle. Nice watches though. To be honest, I think they're another brand whose current identity isn't that connected to their roots at all.

How about a nice Stowa Flieger, Great History, great name (only to those in the Know), built for you..but you have to wait a bit..

Of those two I would prefer the Hamilton. I had a Hamilton Chrono myself a few years ago and it was a very nice piece, and excellent value for money.
Another option in that price range would be Meccaniche Veloci. Very unusual designs, and beautifully made. There's a seller on eBay who has these at excellent prices.

I can't reconcile this statement with the two watches you're looking at. Maybe it's me but I see incredibly busy dials.

Maybe a wrong choice of words, bust dials like This, This and This would just send me crossed eyed.

What about a Glycine Combat Sub? New they might be just above your budget, but there have been some excellent condition second hand ones for sale recently.
