ok so i have a superb hifi literally 2 feet away from where my laptop is and i would really like to connect the two, i have the cable but when connected the ground loop between the 2 devices cause some serious interference,
im aware of the problem but i dont no how to fix it
also my laptops battery is dead so i cant just unplug the charger
also again my hifi is a pioneer a400x so you can forget it having any usb port, it doesnt even have a digital out
and again i see these usb digital converter things but really id prefer to do it for free
im using a 3.5mm jack to rca to connnect them

I'm guessing there is no aux 3.5mm input on the hifi?

Have you tried connecting a phone/mp3 player to see if the ground hum is still there? Might help narrow down the issue

It's an earth fault... Open the plugs on the hi fi and laptop and disconnect the earth (only if you know what your doing or else ask a sparky) and that'll resolve it..

lads , problem solved! was a matter of having the hifi and laptop plugged into the same extension cord,
i was actually quite shocked that it worked cos all over the internet it seemed the only solution to my problem was to remove the earth :D
