I'm looking into the Bachelor of Business Studies (part-time) and I'm looking for some feedback. I'm currently working full time.

    Is it demanding?
Is it hard it get a place?
How have people found the structure of the lectures?
What are the numbers like in the lectures?
What is the recommended hours of study per week?
    Are the exams tough?
    Is it worth it?
    Any other comments?

    Hi Sipod,

I have just finished the 1st year of the DBS/BBS program. I'm also working full time and I have a young family .I'll try to answer some of your questions but having only done one year I suppose I won't have the full perspective that someone who has graduated might have.

    Is it demanding?
The most demanding part for me has been time management. Finding time to research and write essays to a deadline can be hard work after a full day in the day job and cooking/ kids bed-time routine. I've found it do-able but you need to plan ahead and be committed.

Is it hard to get a place?
I applied a couple of weeks before the course began last year and had no problem getting a place. I think UCD will be happy to take your money!

How have people found the structure of the lectures?
The lectures are all day friday and saturday approximately once a month during the semester. It's quite intense but if you've read ahead (unlike me) you'll get more out of them. The biggest drag for me was having to use about 8 days annual leave for the lectures and exams. Some people i spoke to were supported by their employers and were getting paid to be there so it'd be worth talking to your work and sounding out if this might be possible for you.

What are the numbers like in the lectures?
I never counted but I'd say around 60 at a guess. Small enough to ask a question if you want to and the atmosphere is fairly informal.

What is the recommended hours of study per week?
I think they recommend 16 hours a week for 1st year (could be wrong). I never stuck to that. I found myself working all weekend and evenings before i had an assignment due and before exams and far less inbetween.

    Are the exams tough?
To be honest I found them to be a bit easier than i had feared they might be for the level of work i had put in. I think most people could get a good grade with the right level of commitment.

    Is it worth it?
It is for me. Only you can answer that question for yourself.

    Any other comments?
I spent years thinking of going back and doing a degree. I haven't regretted the decision to start back or my choice of course so far.
I've found the people in the center for distance learning office very friendly and approachable. I'd recommend that you talk to them. They'll be more than happy to help and answer any questions you have.

I hope thats of some help to you.
