I used this crowd for some service parts recently, have to say they are well priced and delivery was really fast... and free.

It says on their website 2-10 working days. What is it realistically?

It was about a month ago, but I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was a day or two. I live in Dublin, maybe they are also based in Dublin. I remember I ordered it and they sent me a picture about an hour later of my package.

EDIT: Just noticed I was able to track package, ordered on friday at about 3pm, delivery attempt on Monday (I wasn't home), I picked it up on Tuesday from post sorting office.

Bought oil off amazon only the other week. Totally forgot about micks garage, which is normally my first stop for all things car.

    Thanks for the reminder OP.

Before you go jumping on this bargain, check carefully what your cars oil requirement for 10W-40 is.
Not all 10W-40 (or any oil like 5W-30) are the same, different manufacturers have specific specs of oil like BMW LL04 or VW 505.01.
Each manufacturers recommended oil will have certain spes regarding life span, ash rate, etc..

Ordered 2 bottles of it at 3pm yesterday. Got it in post today. Very impressed with the service

Cheap oil isn't necessarily good oil. It's the lifeblood of the engine and saving in the short term can lead to a much bigger expense in the long term with increased wear & tear etc. Just saying as I made that mistake before.

Exactly as ongarite said, don't just buy the cheapest oil of your grade as the engine has certain specifications to reach and you'll be very lucky if you get it in the budget oils.
Like for me, my car has to pass ll04 for bmw, which means I must buy the most expensive 5w30 going.
    Thread carefully!

I find oil depots normally have best value. Generally buy fully synthetic shell oil with spec as per skoda recommendations, 20L for 80-90.
No economy in putting in incorrect oil

Couldnt agree more. Go to carlube.co.uk and you can see exactly if this oil is suitable for your car by filling in car details online. This is the type of oil i buy all the time so was fortunate to get it so cheap

Damn, you are right. I thought my engine needed oil that passed LL-01, which Micks garage does, but it actually needs the LL-04. I guess I will be sticking with Amazon for now.

It seems that the LL-01 rating is for cars outside Europe where the sulfur content is high in fuels whereas the LL-04 is for within Europe where the sulfur content is low in fuels.

    You learn something new everyday.

That's cheap, cheapest I can get is Mobil 1 through Halfords on trade at €70 for 10 litres. But that's a great price.

Oil that cheap cannot be of good enough quality, just my opinion, I wouldn't touch it.

    Lidl Oil

I ran a VW Caravelle to 360 k miles mostly on lidl oil. The wife's Corolla is hitting 150 K miles mostly on lidl oil with no issues.

    It works for me.

Correct spec is the important thing.

£23 is cheap but not if you have to add £22 postage ;)

Last week I ordered 4l of Castrol Edge 5W30 (that's the official stuff that should go into the BMW - it even says Castrol on the oil filler cap LOL)

    For £28. Including shipment...

Indeed and long life is a load of bollocks anyway. My car is oil serviced every 6k miles or every year at the very latest. There is no cheaper way of maintaining a healthy engine than regular oil / filter changes :)

Did you order the castrol from OpieOils?

I have an 07 Civic 1.8 SES. Honda recommend 5w30, which is expensive. Would I get away with a cheaper oil?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,869 ✭✭✭thegreatiam

No you won't, it must be a 5w30 to your engine.
It will be a big mistake Trust me.

Do you own/work in a garage that sells oil though?

No i dont think he does, i would stay with the recommended vicosity to be fair its not much more.

Do you own/work in a garage that sells oil though?

No but I do All my own car work, I have seen what the wrong oil does to a car.
In 7000 miles you can go from a perfectly good engine to Crap.
If the oil is too thick it may not get to the head through the veins which will lead to a quick death, too thin and every seal will leak oil, once they leak they continue to even if you replace with the correct oil.
If you have a turbo car oil is even more important.
Even then if you have the correct grade then it must be the correct relevant specification.

I don't work in a garage or anything I'm not trying to keep anyone from deals. I'm just saying that only a select few can use this deal, oil is the only thing that keeps your car from tearing itself apart and can also kill it pretty quick when wrong.

Apologies, I thought I had linked to the price on Amazon. Must have forgotten. Here it is

Ah, I didn't check what the UK shipment cost was - free indeed :)

Still not much of a bargain imho if for the same money you can get the proper branded stuff (albeit 20% less of it :D)

    Opie oils

    £42 + £5 UK delivery + €3.50 PM, so about €56 landed

Amazon £28 + free delivery, so about €31 landed
