Is it too risky to assume I have the right travel vaccinations?

    Hi all,

I am moving to Thailand in the coming months and I am starting to think about vaccinations. I checked the Tropical Medical Bureau website and they advise getting Tetanus, Typhoid and Hep A.

I've had these at different points over the last two years for travel to different countries. I am very tempted to just assume I will be ok and avoid paying the €55 consultation charge. I know it's very risky (as they may recommend other shots) but I would hate to have to pay them €55 just for them to tell me I don't need anything.

My major concern is that I might need a prescription for maleria tablets, but I'm going for at least 6 months so I'm not sure.

Any advice? Have any of you had a similar experience? Should I just go in and make sure everything is ok?

55 seems cheap for this to me, in the context of the risks associated with a long haul trip.

I would say it'd very much depend on where you're going in Thailand and what you'll be doing there.

If you're going to be hanging around Pattaya for 6 months you'll probably be okay. If you're planning on heading into the hinterlands / jungle etc. I think maybe some professional advice might be in order.

I know 55 euro is a pain but it'll pale in comparison to ending up wishing you'd gone because you've contracted god knows what.

In the grand scheme of a 6 month trip it's really not that much.
Alternatively you can just email them and ask them what they think, last time I dealt with them they were very open and aware of costs etc.

I'll be in Chiang Mai for the 6 months...

Yeah I guess it is probably best to just go for it, at least I'll get peace of mind.

Who did you get the previous vaccinations with? They should have your details, just ask them.

    Hi there rockyVII,

I just closed your thread here. Please consult your GP and do not risk your health over not consulting your GP on something they would answer for you in a heart-beat!

    Thanks,
