    Hey.
I'm starting the full time Graphic Design course in the Dublin Institute of Design next month - full time.
I'm looking for any advice/feedback/tips from people who have studied there or previously studied there that you could give eg: anything you would recommend learning before the course starts, what's likely to be covered, how much of the first year is theory vs software learning? etc.. Thanks for the heads up.

I assume you're talking about the Visual Com. course?
I'd imagine it's 50/50 in terms of software/theory. It wouldn't hurt to learn the basic's of Photoshop/Illustrator or InDesign. I'm sure the course doesn't expect any pre-existing knowledge of any programs. Only some basic art stuff.
As for what's likely to be covered, that must have been in the DIT booklet thingy they give out in schools/open days/etc, is it not? I remember seeing it before, and it listed off everything you would do in each year. The website probably has details of the course for you too look up.
Main thing is, don't worry about it. From this post, you seem a little shakey on what they'll expect. If I was to guess, they'll just expect you do be creative, and hard working. They'll take it from there.

    Let Me OUt
Did you get any replies. I did send this college a query a few months back and got no reply. Would be interested to hear from anyone who has done any of the courses.

Hi Mister Man. Thanks for reply. However you're thinking of a different college. It's the Dublin Institute of Design not DIT. I know about the 50/50 theory/software... I was looking for more specifics from someone who might have just done the course and had firsthand experience of the lectures ad maybe how to get ahead based of what specifically they teach...

hamo79 - I didn't get any replies eg pm's here but I did briefly attend the college's open day. I know they mentioned on their Facebook a few months back that their email system was down for a few days so that maybe was the reason for not responding.. This and the fact that they changed building and things were hectic, phonelines being changed over etc... They recently updated their website so worth a browse and even ringing them..
