Anyone ever cross Dorset ram with horned scotch ewes.
Need a new ram and looking at a few different options

never crossed one to scotch ewes but did put one out with mule ewes a few years back - had quick growthy lambs that looked well until weaning then they became big carcases with little cover and hard to flesh and woolly into the bargain
Had a neighbour who crossed a dorset with swaledale ewes and said he had great lambs, mind you i never saw them so only his word to go on. Few local men have experimented with the beltex on horny ewes (wouldn't need to be too horny cos i doubt if one of those little pig type sheep could ever mount a perth type ewe)

i believe the dorset sheep has its place but not as a terminal sire, go with a texel and you'll have decent hardy ewe lambs to breed off that will improve carcase conformation
