Can a HDD from one soft modded original xbox be used on another that was bricked ?

    Hi,

Ive have a soft modded xbox from years ago, but only got around to upgrading the stock 8gb hard drive to a 160gb one last night using Chimp and the hot swap method. Its working great smile.png, but it got me thinking about something.

I have a friend who asked me if I would soft mod his xbox after I modded mine, I told him I would, he asked how much it would cost and I said that because he was a friend that I would do it for free but if anything went wrong I wasnt responsible. Unfortunately, out of all the devices Ive ever owned or soft modded for other people, this was the only one that bricked. I did soft mod it successfully, but then I went to install something using slayers installer and when it rebooted I got one of the error codes frown.png.

I know that the motherboard is married to the hard drive, and you cant just swap them, Ive also managed to find a folder on one of my old PC's called "xbox1" that I remember making that has a nand backup for either his xbox or mine, but I cant remember which one redface.png.

What sparked my interest though was that one of the options in chimp for locking the hard drive was "lock with master key", does this mean that you can now use any lockable hard drive on any xbox without having to worry about the motherboard and the nand on the drive matching up ?, if so Ill be able to resurrect my friends old xbox.

    Thanks in advance

Just to avoid confusion, Im basically wondering if there is any way of bringing the other bricked xbox back from the dead, seeing as I have a working stock 8gb hard drive from my working xbox that I just upgraded the hard drive for. The nand doesnt match but maybe there is a way now to marry different hard drives with different motherboards now for such an old system?.

I think you can only sort this out if you dumped & have a backup of the original eeprom.bin from your friends machine...though I'm not very well versed in Xbox modding so could very well be wrong. What exact error is coming up?

Its in pieces right now as I was using it to power the hard drive I was upgradind to for the hot swap, Ill let you know once I put it back together. Yea like I said above I did a nand backup years ago, like back in early 2007, it was a backup fort one of the 2 machines but its been so long I haven't a clue which one it was.

When you backed up the eeprom there should be a text file with it called hddinfo.txt, it will have the hard drive serial number inside. Just have a look at the hard drive stick and compare the two!
