Hi, I restarted cycling using the bike-to-work scheme in early June and am still enjoying it (getting 20km in on a workday, 25-30km on a weekend day) on my basic road bike.

I would like to set myself a goal to keep me going through the winter months and I'm envious of my friends who do running because they've got a bunch of events they can support.

Do any of you have suggestions for a newbie friendly (100km max!) event ?

    Preferably in the Dublin area.

I'm in the same boat as you, just started cycling for a couple of months now, but I'm aiming towards the Lough Allen Charity Cycle below, I have signed up for 115km, looks a fairly flat course aswell.

It's on much too soon for it to be a winter training goal but there's the Joe Loughman Randonee on September the 8th (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=86035387)

There's a 50k route which you could comfortably do if you're already able to do 30k. Bray, Refreshments in Roundwood and back to Bray. Might be a fun taste of Sportives :) They also have a 105km route but that might be a bit much too soon.

Thanks. Looks like I may have to broaden my horizon and buy a bike carrier for the car.

Do that, great way to see nice countryside, especially for first time.
