Surely my car is worth more than this!

Hi, I have had my 2000 golf gti for nearly 4 years but have recently got a company car so it has been sitting up for the last couple of months, I want to sell it but the clutch is slipping badly and needs to be replaced so I would have to get it fixed to get a decent price.

A neighbour has offered me €500 euro for it and I'm tempted to take it to just get rid but I can't help but feel its worth more in parts - recaro sport seats and clean gti alloys must be worth that alone.

Can anyone suggest what would be the best way to make the most money from it without fixing it?

You can try breaking it but being honest its a pain in the hole. Im breaking one at the minute and its nearly not worth the hassle.

Youll buy a driving gti of the same era for around €750, so on that basis id take the €500 and run.

You could break it and get more money back, but youll have to wait for it and have the hassle of taking everything apart.

If you have the space and the mechanical knowhow to break it yourself you will get more for it but it could take a year! You will also have to advertise it for a while and there will be problems with shipping which will limit your market.

If you don't have the space and the mechanical knowhow you will have a broken golf and a garden that looks like Stepoe's yard.

Depends on how much value you put on the hassle of breaking it and selling it in pieces. There would be no decision to make for me.

Your car is worth a bit more than €500 but not that much more.

If I were you I would rather take the handy €500 than go through the hassle of breaking it or advertising it on Donedeal where you will have every messer in the country wasting your time and wrecking your head and eventually you might get €700-800 if you are lucky.

If your neighbour is willing to buy it for 500 with a slipping clutch, it's a way to sell it quickly without the hassle of trying to sell it via donedeal.

don't get me wrong, donedeal is a great site but having to deal with low ballers, chancers and time wasters is head wrecking.

"lowest cash price today?" "cash in hand, money waiting" etc.

Recently sold a car and arranged for 4 people to come take a look in a 2 hour window. Only one showed up and he bought it.

I'd put a new clutch in it and get a fresh NCT. Only way to get some value for it.

If he's offered €500, tell him you'll take €600. Might get another €50 off him.

That said, if he doesn't budge, bite his hand off.

id take the 500 and be happy with it, I bought a 02 one of them last year that was driving for 600, had no test but only took a couple of hundred to get it through the test.

"Worth" is the eyes of the buyer.
You can put some pics and a good description on donedeal and adverts but tbh I'd take the 500 and let the neighbour sort the clutch.

Might cost about 500 to do that. Would you even get a grand for it then?
