More Durable than Chip and Tar ?

Howdy, does anyone know of a product that is harder wearing than chip and tar for a domestic driveway. Really want gravel but its not practical with kids and I am not a huge fan of standard Tarmac. If there is such a product how does it compare to SMA 50mm price wise. Mods : please move if posted in wrong place
