We're renovating a victorian terraced house. We're replacing the 1980s aluminium windows with modern, original-style wooden sliding sash windows.

We've looked at Munster Joinery and they're not right - too bulky, too ornamented and annoying grooves at the joints.

    We've heard of Mellott's Joinery.

So, does anyone have any other leads/recommendations for quality high energy performance wooden sliding sash windows?

Technically, they're good (energy efficiency, workmanship), but having seen them, I'm not happy with how 'authentically' they produce these windows.

For victorian/edwardian houses, they're just too chunky, and there's unnecessary extra detail in the window frames. What I most dislike are the 2-3mm grooves at every joint - some people wouldn't care, but I think they're distracting, inauthentic, look cheap and collect airborne dust.

So I'll be avoiding Munster sash windows if I can ...

Have just purchased windows from [see forum charter] Very Happy so far :-). They look great. The also look to be well built. Went for triple sliding sash with continuous horns. Very hard to tell the difference between these windows (UPVC) and wooden. Went for A rated triple. [stop posting until you read charter] All good so far.
