Hi guys looking for a bit of help if possible.

Currently im on jobseekers benefit (although I reckon ill be due to move to JSA in a couple months) Ive been offered part time work in a hotel doing bar work for functions. The thing is though I could work 5 hours one week or 40 hours or none at all. Does anyone have any idea what my options are? Obviously I want to take the job but I dont want to end up with less money than I get now ( im over 25 so I get 188 p/w also myself and the childs mother arent together)
The only info I can find on Citizens Information appears to be assuming you will work the same amount of days each week.

Any more info you guys need dont hesitate to ask.
    Thanks

Anyone got any ideas about this?

You can go on a casual claim. You don't have to work set days per week. You will loose 1/5th of your weekly rate per day worked. This is regardless of whether that day is 1 or 10 hours long.

If you work more than 3 days in a week you cannot claim jobseekers

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

That was not mentioned when I went in to change to a casual benefit

If you work more than 3 days in a week and are on JA you won't be paid for that week. If you work more than 3 days in a week when on JB you might get paid for some days that week it would depend on your pattern for the following week.

JA week is Wednesday to Tuesday.
JB week is Thursday to Wednesday.

Can someone explain to me what the story is with the lying week? And what day they pay you on as they keep giving me different information. My start date for work is this thursday the 5th

I'm a little confused at the moment I'm working about 6 hours over 3 days a week due to switch from JB to JA shortly stamps finishing up shortly, all paperwork sorted have been assured the switch will be smooth no waiting. My confusion lies in that it will happen when stamps run out in x amount of weeks time which was coming up shortly now I've been advised no it will be another x amount of weeks. Now I'm wondering am I getting the correct information from the office?

The problem with casual claims is that if the days vary the finish date of the claim is not set. As the claim is based on number of days used each week you work an extra day the duration gets longer or work a day less it gets shorter.
If you are unsure of the info contact the office to find out how many days you have left on your claim. For each full week of unemployment deduct 6 from the total days left or reduce it by 1 less for each day worked. E.G. If you work 2 days claim reduces by 4 days.
As you only work a small number of hours per day you might be better off on the JA ( depending on whether you would have other means I.e. spouses income or capital etc)

Like a week in lieu, they said I'd get no payment for my casual dockets until the second one had gone in, like a week in lieu you do when starting a job, so I'll have no money next week, and depending when the cheques are issued no money until the end of the following week either

Casual claims are paid in arrears. Your first day of work is the first day of the next week. Once you leave in your docket for W/E 11th September then the next payment will run. So there will be not payment received by you during next week. The cheques run on a Friday nights, post Monday and you should receive it Tues/Wed, depending on the post.
After this weeks PO payment you should expect your next payment on 17/18 September.

Thanks for the clarificiation sue.Yes I've been informed I'd be better off on JA Im currently waiting for my stamps to finish on JB and have been assured that I will be transferred to JA when this happens with no delay. Just finding it hard to calculate remaining stamps.

You can request to go on JA now if you would be better off on it. I would look for this to be done now rather than wait.

Have requested to go on JA have been told this wont come into effect until my last remaining stamps are used shortly.I would presume that I've been advised correctly?

Ok they are of the knowledge that I would be better off on JA and are insistent that my remaining stamps must be used before the JA request is realised.
I'm being informed correctly? I'm currently claiming JB on stamps due to expire.

    Appreciate your advice.

You have the right to request to go on JA if you want. I would request in writing that you want to apply now for JA and they should change it over. whichever is more financially beneficial is the correct claim.

Thanks for your advice. If I've got the right to request in writing why have I not been informed I could do so? I suppose it's not in their interests. Do I just hand in a letter to the office or addressed to a specific person/office? My stamps situation does not matter?

If you have received a JA decision write to the person who signed the letter, if not send it in in general.
I can't answer why you weren't told that.
The stamp situation does not matter.
