From Galway Advertiser's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/GalwayAdvertiser/posts/10151809585151941
BUS Eireann has confirmed an investigation has been launched into an incident where a woman with cancer travelled up 25kms in the baggage compartment of one of its coaches to Galway after she was accidentally locked inside ...

I've never understood how it's safe for CityLink and GoBus drivers to help people with luggage, but not for Bus Éireann drivers.

Cancer patient 'trapped' in Bus Éireann luggage compartment for 25km
    Updated: 17:15, Monday, 26 August 2013
Bus Éireann has said it takes all complaints very seriously Bus Éireann has said it takes all complaints very seriously

Bus Éireann has launched an investigation into an incident where a woman reportedly travelled up to 25km in the baggage compartment of one of it coaches.

The cancer patient was travelling to her home in Ballyvaughan in Co Clare from Galway where she has been undergoing treatment.

When the bus stopped in Ballyvaughan, the woman is understood to have climbed into the baggage compartment to retrieve her bag.

However, the bus continued its journey to Doolin, a further 25km away, where the woman was discovered.

Bus Éireann is now investigating the circumstances of the incident, which occurred in recent weeks.

A spokeswoman said: "Bus Éireann takes complaints very seriously and we investigate all complaints.

"This matter is currently being investigated and you will appreciate no further comment can be given pending the outcome of the investigation."

Seemingly forced into it by a Columbian.

You'd think she'd gone into labour and given birth to triplets while trapped in the luggage compartment considering the coverage this is getting in the media. It was the starter story on RTE radio's Drivetime at 4:30 today and it's currently the headline story over on www.independent.ie

As far as I recall this has happened previously, it's always a risk if the driver isn't outside the bus when he closes the door. The solution would be to have a light that comes on inside the luggage compartment when the door closes and a panic button in the middle of the compartment which can be used to alert the driver.

She didn't want to make a big deal out of it, pity the media didn't respect her wishes.

I bet if the passenger didn't have cancer nobody would be talking about it in the media.

Why does her having cancer matter?

An identical situation happened to another woman a few years back and was reported widely in the media at the time.
