CV Question - Relevance of previous jobs..

I'm applying for a specific role, my work history features some quite varying roles in unrelated fields/industries.

In regards to the job I'm applying for, my related work experience was in 2011/2012 but the company went out of business (after I left).

Does this reflect badly or would employers perhaps take a dim view of this fact?

If asked at interview, "why did you leave?" The honest answer would be that I was let go because of cutbacks, I'm just wondering if it pays to be honest in this regards or would I be better off saying my contract ended etc. ?

Am trying to give myself the best chance possible of securing the job.

If you want to avoid saying that you were laid off, just say the employment ended because the company folded. But either way there's no shame in it at the moment, companies see loads of applications from people who've been recently made redundant.

Interviewers understand that cutbacks have more to do with money than with skills. You could be a leading expert in your area, but if the company decides your team can be outsourced then you'll all be let go regardless of your abilities.
