Yep, had it last time. Bit annoying especially when some of their quotes were hillariously expensive.

It is good idea to miss one digit of your number "accidentally" on the form.

It's become the norm in the last couple of years I'm afraid. Very annoying and there doesn't seem to be an opt out when you are getting a quote.

I got a renewal quote from Liberty this year and they were very expensive as well. Kind of funny as they are advertising very heavily. I sometimes wonder would companies just be better to give cheaper quotes than spending huge sums on advertising.
I went with FBD in the end.
I normally just put in a fake number and I generally dont answer private or Dublin landline numbers.

I had a few hilarious quotes alright AXA I am looking at you. Also quite a few refusal to quotes and "please ring us as we won't quote online".

To be fair to axa, I recently renewed and liberty were dearest by far at 720, average was 550ish but axa came in at 340. Happy days.

I generally use my home number for all these forms - all calls I get on it are from companies cold calling and asking for business owner. Put it on silence last year and never looked back.

Got quoted silly by axa in April, keep getting missed calls from them now even though they knew my renewal date.

IT can be a pain, but it can also be a blessing. Had some ring around with crazy quotes, told them the best quote (-€50) I had and told them to match and I would think about it. They either match or don't call back. They want you money, not business, just money, some will drop the price, some are just very expensive.

Sometimes, they do call you back with a better quote though.

I once got quoted 1130 online using the AA website, and I got a call back with an offer of 640 the next day. Most of the time, it's a nuisance call, but occasionally it's a senior member of staff offering you a better quote.

    That's ridiculous!

I got some quotes for my renewal direct with Axa and Aviva of 3K+ but the majority of others were in the 600-1200 mark. I ended up going for Axa through AA at around 650 or something like that. Big difference going direct or through a broker.

I have a complete alter persona when getting online quotes. By night, I'm Laura, who has the same car, is the same age, lives in the same area and has the same NCB.

Her phone number and e-mail address is very similar to mine ;)

They won't bother. Giving them fake number sorts the problem.
    They are doing their job.

I've never really heard of Campion before, but my brother got a quote off them recently and they were the cheapest he could find. I know this doesn't really go with the theme of the thread, but figure if anyones ringing around at the moment and might not have heard of them they might be worth a ring (unless they're very well known, of course, and it's just me who hasn't heard of them!). :P

One company definitely keeps your reg number, I can't remember which though. I got a quote online using my correct reg number, as you had to enter a one or it wouldn't give you a quote but I put in fake contact details. When I rang them to see if I could get a better one, I gave them my reg and they were able to match it up exactly with the online quote.

I only meant that they won't find out who you are based on reg number, so as long as You don't give them correct contact details, you can do 100's of quotes online without having to speak to them. Most online quotes are valid for month and I am sure they keep details of the quote in case you want to go ahead with it. This includes whatever number you give them.

I am sure they don't like people using fake details to get quotes.

If I'm getting serious quotes and looking to renew I'm usually glad of the call. Ended up getting my best quote when axa called back and offered me a further 10% of my already competitive quote through their online system.

If I'm just checking out quotes on cars i don't own ill put obviously fake names down, and keep the details RE age, ncb etc the same.

I had the same thing today.
Funny thing is Chill insurance rang me to talk about my quote only i hadn't even gotten my quote online yet, I was still filling in the details online.

Liberty rang straight back too but when I told them what the Aviva quote was they just said ok thank you and bye. Obviously with the deal Aviva are doing at the momenet they know they cant beat them.

Got some random quotes highest Axa €1597, chepest Aviva €474 how do they explain that?

I must get at least 4 or 5 letters from the aa every year around renewal time from being with them over 6 years ago.
