pention entitlement

My husband is selfemployed and will be reaching retirement age in 3 years time. I am just wondering if anyone can tell me will he be entitled to contribitury or non contribitury pention. I have tried to look this up on citizen information but got totally bogged down on other stuff. a link would be helpful :-)

It depends on his income at pension age and his contributuion record over the years.
If he was always self employed he probably never paid any contributions. This means he is not entitled to a contribution based state pension.
He could go for the non-contribution based state pension- but that is means tested. It depends on how much money he has on the bank, how much land he owns or what other income he has at that point. Not to forget your own income, which is taken into consideration as well.

A good start would be to get a copy of the number of social insurance stamps paid to date. You can order a copy of his social insurance record online from Department of Social Protection, here's the link:

As above get his insurance record and go to the citizens information and they will work it out for you.

Please note that self-employed workers pay PRSI class S, which does entitle them to a contributory State pension.

Please note that whether or not you receive a cont State pension does not depend on your income.

It depends on your record of PRSI contributions.

Also the rules are changing yearly so make sure you have the correct years rules when working out his entitlements. Is he 66 in 3 years time?
