    Hi all,

sorry if this is in the wrong place. I'm just looking into the BA Joint Honours degree, the part time one. I have read all the websites and all the info i could get but just want to try get my head around it and thought i'd ask a few questions here. I am going in as a mature student, sorry i forgot to say.

I would be looking to do french and music. Are these the only subjects I would be learning?
Since it is part time, do the hours change every year, or would it be a saturday?
It says on the fee page that they are €486 per module. How many modules would you study in the arts programme?

Sorry if i seem a bit clueless, ut maybe if someone who has experience in this area could give me a bit of insight, that would be great.

    Thanks.

You will primarily take modules that fall under french and music, so yeah they would be your main subjects. As part of the BA programme you will also do some elective modules, and you can chose to study pretty much anything as part of that. If you want though you can just do music and french related modules instead.

Your timetable can change from semester to semester. You will still take the same modules as the full time BA students, but you will have far fewer hours per week as your degree will be more spread out.

You need to gain 180 credits to get your degree, so that is usually six modules a semester which are worth five credits each. Some times you might have ten credit modules. In the full time BA programme that means three years to complete a degree, but it is spread to four years for part time students.

    .

So this would mean the hours could be any time during the week, so it would be difficult to have a full time job at the same time?

At the start of the semester you will get to chose many of the modules you want to do so you can have some flexibility as to how your timetable is structured.

To be honest though it would be difficult to have a full time job while doing even a part time BA. UCD used to offer a part time BA programme in the evening, but from 2013 that has been discontinued (details here). Part time work or evening work might be a better option over full time if you can go down that route.

Also you can visit the Programme Office during their office hours if you want. Might be a worthwhile visit to put your mind at rest. They are really helpful. :)

Thanks for your help :) I rang the number on the joint honours page but got no answer. It might be a possibility to go part time in my job (and I was already considering it as I've a child and it would cut child care costs down) but I'd have to ask into it. I'll ring the office again n if I get no reply I'll make a trip over! Thanks again!

Hey, I just have one more question. If it's €486 per module n you have to take min 3, would that mean you have to pay €1200+ per semester, depending on how many modules you take? Thanks again!
