    Hi Everyone,

I am thinking about going for a hair transplant, as my hair has thinned significantly. For the first few years, I was dealing with it ok. However, for the past year my hairloss has really got to me. My hairloss seems to have stopped over the past 2 years, I am currently a 4 on the Norwood hairloss scale. From reading online, a FUE procedure seems to be the least invasive.

Does anyone know anything about the following hair clinics?

    http://www.artenoviclinic.ie/arte-novi-hair-restoration.html
This clinic is based in Malahide and the hair transplant surgeon is Dr. Sam van Eeden. From looking online, I cannot find any reviews from patients about his work. However, he is a member of the The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons(ISHRS). Places on this board are coveted and difficult to secure - this would imply that he is a good surgeon but I am slightly concerned by the lack of online reviews.

    http://www.ailesburyhairclinic.com/
I have not heard much about them but they frequently appear in search engines.

    http://www.vincihairclinic.com/
They carry-out consultations in Ireland but the surgery would be performed in London or Madrid.

Right now, these are the three clinics which I am researching for my transplant. If anybody has any feedback/knowledge (positive or negative) about the above clinics, please let me know.

If you can recommend any other clinics, it would also be useful.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for replying Bojangles.

It is very strange that Van Eeden has a place in the International Society of Hair Restorations Surgeons yet these articles would raise a big question mark over his professionalism.

was talking to a barber about this, and he said some of the treatments look really bad afterwards. Theres only one clinic in Ireland that he would recommend, and its very expensive. That place Louis Walsh went to.

There was an article in the weekender section of the Irish Independent last Saturday about this. The journalist visited Andre Nel's practice.

I got my hair transplant 1 year ago in Poland and so did me brother 3 weeks ago. I got 2800 grafts and it cost me 4000€. I was been asked for 25000€ for the same job in Dublin. If anyone wants to know more pm me. Ireland is a shocking rip off when it comes to stuff like this.

You have 2 options here mate.

    Embrace it.

Use all sorts of traetments like rogaine foam, minoxodil or hair transplant. A waste of money IMO. If you're going bald there's no stopping it.

    Have a look at this.

OP you can grow back hair by loosening your scalp. Massage the muscles on the bqck and sides of your head and "scrunch" the skin on the top of your head. I've been doing this for two months and I can now see some new hairs growing back. Google immortal hair forum for further info.

OP, your best bet is to search high and low on hair loss forums and see which surgeons people recommend and then take a look at people's results and personal experiences in these forums. US and mainland European doctors seem to be top. Avoid Irish surgeons though - far too expensive and I never see them recommended by anyone.

In the meantime, buy some minoxidil and look into using a clever product like Toppik, which if used sparingly, could hold off needing to take drastic action for a few years. That's what I've been using and it's given me time to get finances in under if I decide to go with surgery in a year or two. <snip>

    Hi Guys,

A bit of advice for anyone considering going for private hair transplant surgery.

You can use medicalcouncil.ie to check the registration status of any doctor who offers hair transplant surgery.

A persons qualifications are listed in their profile.

Personally, I would only go with a qualified, trained surgeon, who has attained his/her FRCS (Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons), and particularly those who have specialised in an area such as Plastic, ENT or General Surgery.

Several other individuals are on the General Register of the medical council, and do have any specific postgraduate surgical qualification.

Its worth checking out before going along to one of the clinics

I took it( <snip> for a year, and over this year, my sexual drive started to decline. I stopped 3 months ago, and thankfully, I am back to normal. I guess I'm in the 10% category. I stopped the Rogaine too. It was having no effect. I got my HT (2600grafts) 18 months ago, and could not be happier. I'm 34 now, and will bald more as the years go by. Ill probably get another HT in 4-5 years time and that should be it.
The HT I have had done has being a huge success. Best thing I ever did. If anyone has questions I am happy to answer them.

Hi, have you managed to gather any information on Dr Nel?

Any american doctor will only recommend a surgeon that does hundreds of the procedures a year. As the surgeon will be highly skilled and know what works and what doesnt work. I wouldn't use a surgeon if they weren't doing the procedure every day

I have got work done with Transmed- four years ago. Excellent work , worth considering with direct flights and a good job done for 6000 euros. Check their website.

Not sure about Irish surgeons but if I was getting this done abroad would be where based on costs. I was in the Bumrungrad Private Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand a few years back with an infection, I was amazed at the hospital, huge and ultra modern with a high level of service. They're pretty well renowned and do lots of different surgeries, including hair transplants. I'd probably look somewhere like there or a Eastern Europe if I was ever to get it. But for my my hair loss seems to have stabilised and stopped for now so am not too concerned. I might be down the road though

    OP,

nearly went down this route a couple of years ago. I actually went for an appointment in a top hair clinic in Blackrock. ended up knowing the main Transplant surgeon. he actually said straight that there is no guarantee it will be as thick as it was , it will be extremely costly, and he also said he had to deal with so many botched transplant jobs where the poor feckers cant even shave their head due to scarring etc.. .

I hope my experience will help anybody in making the big decision.
I have written my experience up in another post on boards. I have gone through all this myself and have first hand experience with the Blackrock clinic and actually getting a HT done in Poland. Below, I have re-pasted into this post my experience below.

That was 2 years ago. wow, time flies. I'm 34 now (but I look better then I did at 32:)) I'm a shark in the clubs in Dub now:) My baldness was directly connected to my confidence , however pathetic that is..
I have no desire to settle down as I feel I have prolonged my bachelor years..

Anyway, with regards to my hair, Dr. Saifi did a fantastic job. I just happened to go to him as he was cheap, but I'm sure there are plenty others like him.
I tell people I've had a HT and they don't believe me...till I show them the before and after pics. That freaks them out:)

I will bald out in the crown in the coming years I guess, and I will just get another job done, and that should be it.
If I don't do that , it will still look natural, the first HT will blend out naturally into the bald crown, but now that I have done the first HT,I am more confident, I'll probably just get another one in 5-8 years or so...
they may even have cloning technology by then..

    Here is my old post.....
    (2 years ago)......
    "My age:32
State of Balding: all the hair on the front receded back, loosing bit of hair on crown also. (Type III vertex.)

I went to visit the Blackrock clinic for a consultation. cost 250€.
    I was given a years prescription of <snip>. 1/4 tablet a day,
and <snip> to be applied once a day.
The price of a hair transplant if I were to go ahead would cost 20,000€. For that I would receive 2000 grafts. One graft can contain between 1-4 hairs.
I went on the meds and researched further.
Reading blogs from sites like hairrestorationnetwork
I found what seemed to be a good doctor in Poland, Dr. Saifi. He was charging a total of 3800€ for 2500 grafts. Way better value!
So I had a consultation with him over Skype and decided to go ahead with it.
Almost 2 months later I was in Poland, Ryanair flight and not so cheap hotel and I was in his surgery. I could see how he could charge so little. Pretty small surgery out of town, but spotlessly clean, with 4 girls to help him(they doubled up as sectaries and cleaners). It was a professional outfit and I felt reassured. After an hours discussion about the procedure, the operation began. I paid him cash then and there, and actually paid an extra 500€ and asked him to up the graft count to 3000. This would be considered a "mega session".
Firstly, he cut out the doner hair from the back of my head(local anesthetic). This is called strip surgery. Once this "strip" was removed, it was handed to the girls ,who immediately started dicing it up into individual grafts. They all worked behind these big microscopes, using scalpels and placing the individual grafts into bowls of solution.
Then he closed the wound.Inner fine stitches and outer stitches. (6 months later this scar was almost invisible to the extent that my barber couldn't find it).
Using a sapphire tipped tool, he punched 3000 holes into the shaved part of my forehead. I wanted a "dense pack" in this area for the completely natural look.
Then from about 12 noon to 7pm, I had 2 people on either side of me popping the grafts into the front of my head.
Finally, he gave me a cap to wear, some meds to be taken over the next week, and I was off back to the hotel.
I returned to Ireland 3 days later, and back to work the following day(with my cap).
Every day I used to check out my hair to see if it was growing, but it took about 2.5-3 months before it started to grow and then it really took off.
Right now, as of the writing of this post,(3.5 month mark) the hair line has being completely restored and I'm no longer loosing hair due the the Procepia.
Even now I have a great result but I know that over the next year, the hair will continue to thicken up more.
I have lost 5 years in appearance, and I'm very happy about it all.
I took a risk with Dr.Saifi, and doing this crazy procedure, but he was a pro. In fact the nurse back here in Ireland who removed Dr.saifi's stitches in the back of my head said never in her life had she seen such a fine stitching job.
I went for strip surgery, but I'd advise paying a little more for FUE. The strip surgery was a little barbaric and I'm told recovery is more prolonged than FUE.
    Points to note:
    1) You need good doner hair.
They're working on cloning now but it could be years before its available as a procedure. In the meantime, you'll need lots of doner hair. I was lucky in this respect. However, my brother is not as his hair is far too thin and simply too little of it.
    2) Ireland is a rip off-especially for meds, doctors, and lawyers.
    3) Don't listen to guys saying "just shave your head". If your a good candidate, DO THIS PROCEDURE. Life is better with lots of hair.

    I hope this helps

I will add to this thread that like the above poster i too made the (in the end not so ) crazy decision to travel to poland and have an FUE procedure with Dr Saifi.

My hair loss has been bugging me for a long time now (three, four years) so i said id take the plunge and do something about it,

I don't believe in any of these lotions, potions and shampoos and all that stuff, i wouldnt do <snip>, but thats just me, i think alot of these things promise but dont deliver results,

for me i wanted to see real results , it wasnt cheap (5k) , but certainly was compared to the prices charged in Ireland or Uk for same procedure , now four months out , im glad i did it, it was nerve wracking heading to poland but now im seeing the results, my hair is starting to grow in and in two or three months more i hope ill see even better results.

I wouldnt push my views on anyone but im very happy i went with the FUE procedure and im happy that i chose a professional yet reasonably priced surgeon like dr saifi in wroclaw in poland
