    You should have accessed your account online, cancelled the original order, waited for the confirmation that it was cancelled and then placed a new order. It sounds like that in your case, by the time you had explained the situation to customer care and got them to understand your requirements, the order had been dispatched.

    I don't think you'll have a problem with refusing the delivery but you'll probably end up paying the delivery charge if there was one.

    When they attempt delivery just refuse the item. I've done this before. No hassle at all. Some companies want a reason for refusal, so just say that you were advised by Amazon to refuse.

    It will then be sent back to them the same priority it was sent to you.
