Car losing power

Does anybody know what could be the problem with my car. If I drive car from cold there is no power untill it heats up and then also lately it's starting to lose power at times. I have no idea what is wrong. Also when I come back from a drive and lift the bonnet and put my hand on the engine, it is really hot. The temp gage on dash never says it's over heating. I have no idea what is the problem so hopefully somebody here with more knowlege than me could tell me.

Get a diagnostic done by a reputable garage, the error code will let you know what to get checked. They normally cost €30 to get done.
