Receiver Advice Please

I need a new receiver with at least 2 cam slots (currently Al Jazeera and Cyfra) which will also do the saorview thing.

    I'm not worried about aertel.

At present I have 2 boxes, an icecrypt s2000cci for the foreign satellite and a ferguson ariva 220 combo for the free to air and saorview.

The plan is to replace the 2 boxes with 1.

I can't seem to get my head around what the smartcard readers on some of the boxes will read, but I think both cards I have need to have cam modules.

    RF out is desirable.

Am I being naive in thinking I can set myself a budget of €200 or less?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

its not easy with that budget, think you need a Twintuner Receiver with two CI-Slots. the cheapest receivers are
    Venton Unibox HD2
    Vantage HD 8000S PVR Twin
    both around 200€ + 2 CAM Modules

if you only need a singletuner it will be far cheaper.

Neither of those boxes will do Saorview which the OP also requires. Saorview is a DVB-T television service in Ireland.

@ OP. You current Ariva 220 does what you want.

The Top slot is a smart card reader (run the patched firmware to read cards).

You will have to buy a CAM for the Ci Slot (underneath the smart card slot).

This is a module that holds the second card. There are different ones for different encyrption systems.

Thanks STB, can you point me in a direction towards the patch?

    For the 220.... sure

Back up your channel list doing a channel dump to USB first - Menu->Tools->Upgrade By USB and Dump (file will be called dumpfile.abs). You can then resurrect the channel list by doing an upgrade by usb and userdb after you have installed the patched version above (as that doesn't have channel lists)....

If there are patches I think I will get the Ferguson Ariva 250 as my new box for downsatirs. Will the patch above work for that too, or do I need to be looking elsewhere?

    Again, thanks in advance.

No thats a specific one for the 220 model.

They are not interchageable on other models due to different firmware sizes and different hardware inside.

Backup your channel lists to a USB stick as described above (file will be called dumpfile.abs).

Unzip the patched firmware. When you are loading the patched firmware (which is nothing other than a softcam for your purposes) go upgrade by usb, allcode and bootloader, pick the patched filename, press start and let it reboot.

Then load your backed up channel list by doing upgrade by USB and choosing userdb (left or right click on the first item in that menu and you will see). Understand the sequence ? If you are not bothered about having to rescan then just load the patched firmware, set up your satellites, diseqc numbers, and rescan.

A similar softcam software version is available for the 250 model. You can google them by just adding patch onto the end of the 250 firmware filename.

(Similarly there is a patched firmware for the Icecrypt to allow you run a softcam to read your subscription cards.. You no doubt know that particular model doesnt do the HD channels as its an MPEG2 profile box afaik.

You are right with the Venton Unibox 2 as that box does come in a DVB-T/DVB-S2 combo configuration (as they have plug n play tuners). For many though used to normal menu boxes, linux is a steep learning curve.
