Cost of a re-spray?

I recently re-sprayed the boot surface of my car to cover up some scratches on it caused by vandalism. Despite getting the exact colour paint and following instructions, I made a mess of it, and now it is noticeably different in appearance from the rest of the car. Does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to get a garage to do it properly? The car is ten years old and I've no intention of replacing it just yet, but the mess I made annoys me every time I see it!

Not a direct answer but have you considered getting a vinyl wrap done? would be about half the price of a respray. I think it's around a grand for a hatchback

Check these guys out carstyle.ie. It's a vinyl material stuck over your original paint. It's an alternative to paint.

They wrap the panel in vinyl.
    Personally most look ****e though.
As its only your boot you'd get away probably with just that getting resprayed.
Any decent sprayer would be able to colour match.
Shop around and get a few quotes. Shouldn't be more than 500 quid for the boot.

Hi in a car spray painter and the price above would be correct to paint the boot and maybe blend colour into 1/4 panels. Hope that helps.

get the paint code and ring around a few breakers, its a ford and a popular colour just replace like for like off a crashed motor, won't cost you anywhere near what a panel beater will charge

Hello jackstaff, can you tell me approx the cost of paint and thinners etc needed to paint an average car, say a golf. Why the price of geting one panel painted maybe as much as 40, 50 % of a full respray. I refer to your price of 500 compared to 1200. Not trying to catch you out, genuinely curious

firstly you wont get proper full respray for 1200.and also there is allot before and after works than spraying.such as masking, mixing paint, puting on protective gear, washing paint gun,etc.. all must be done regardless size of panel

    +1 with Scortho

Vinyl wrap requires a fairly consistant surface without blemishes for it to work right, which won't happen here.

As it's the boot itself it shouldn't be more than €500, on account the painter now has to strip back that paint and start from scratch to do it right.

They will match the paint as best they can but remember with age paint changes colours slightly unless it's been well looked after. Should blend in well and look no different to the untrained eye

Either way best of luck and hope it's sorted soon :)

Thank you mandzhalas. I am aware of the work involved. My friend and I are to paint two old cars and he intends to paint his himself. Regarding the paint, what is the approx cost, say 100 euro. I got a wing and bumper painted last week, for 250,and I know/think that buying paint in small quantities is expensive.
To the OP,depending on the value of your car,I doubt if its worth paying 500,but why not mention the make, model and colour on here. Who knows the RziGHT boot for you may be squashed shortly

That's about right. I certainly wouldn't be paying more than 200.

500 euro to do a boot? Good luck with those prices....

As has been said try a breakers for the same colour panel. This will be a much cheaper option than a respray.

Also did you sand/key the area before respraying it? If you didn't, a soft cloth with petrol should be sufficient(with a bit of elbow grease)to remove the new paint leaving the old paint (as it was) underneath.

To be honest at this stage I've made such a mess already I'm afraid to touch it again. I'll either leave it as it is or get someone who knows what they're doing to fix it!

OP if you're in Dublin I know a guy who does very good work cheaply. Any time I've needed work done, he's done it. PM me if you want.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 313 ✭✭jackstaff

As I said a rough price for a top job INCLUDING BLENDING both 1/4 panels (250 for boot and 125 to blend each panel)
I do good work for a fair price as a lot of garages around dublin I do work for can vouch for
Been in the trade long enough to know cheaper is never better when it comes to my prices.

    Thanks guys

    Jackstaff

How much would 2 doors (large 3 door size) a rear bumper a front bumper and a bonnet cost with other panels blended.

Im guessing not shy of a full respray

Is it damage or just paint work

    Paintwork

Sorry for the late reply. It's effectively a bottom end respray including bonnet so ball park figure of 1000euro is the bad news I'm afraid mate but I don't mind visually estimating a car on site no problem.
    Thanks
