This is a bit of a random thread but I'm starting as a contractor in Intel next Monday and was wondering if anyone knew much about the fitness centre in there. I was told it's only for full time employees but nobody was sure how well the place is monitored for badges. Anyone know if contractors can use it?

Offically no, but depends on if you are a site contractor or a office contractor (I.T.) on whether it's a good idea to try it out.

Very much a 'whistle blower' culture in intel, so you are likely to be reported or confronted by a full time employee when in the gym, even if there is no one offical to check your badge.

If a 'site contractor , working for lynchs etc, this reporting would have a larger implication than if you were an office based contractor.

In either case, if reported, better not to try it again.

Intel Employee here. Only Blue badge employees can avail of the on-site gym unfortunately. There is a gym instructor there that will check on entrance!

Thanks for the replies guys. Seems like it's better to just play it safe and not take the chance (not that I'd get in if they're checking the badges).

...was this aspect of a "whistle blower" rat fink culture.

I cant hear music from the mid 90's to the mid noughties without being reminded of the dreadful 15 yeasr I spent in that hell-hole.

Why was it so bad? People "telling on eachother"? Sounds like school lol

Yeah badge reader to access the Gym only granted to Blue badges.

The old rec center used to allow contractors to use it for a yearly fee of €60(think it was to cover insurance). Was great feature to have but then for some reason it changed. Was never over used so cant imagine that as a reason.

Just to add items in the canteens are more expensive for contractors too!
