    Have been in the satellite scene for many years now and dealt with many many retailers both national and UK/Europe and even China but have never ever had such an unprofessional experience as with this crowd.
    Ordered a usb dvbt tuner from here as it was an obscure looking one and stated that was working in blackhole image and as had not seen this model supported thought would take a punt on it. As expected though it is a cheap Chinese tuner probably worth about $5 And in no way works on blackhole or vix and is dubiously recommended by a "customer"
    That in itself I would understand as just cheap advertising <snip>. No biggie would just return for refund. But this was where the fun started and is reason I had to come here <snip>!

    E-mailed them to organise return and simply stating that it did not work in Linux receivers with present kernels and was returning for refund the barrage of abuse started. <snip>. I use the term business loosely when talking about this crowd.I went to place a pleasant review saying for me it was not of use as was not compatible with Linux receivers. So that others who read the first "review" also has another review to know it didn't work on Linux boxes before buying but they refused to post it or add a post to the present review to stop unsuspecting people falling for this when buying.
    Rather than go on anymore I will copy and paste some of the emails which were continuously sent to meonce I asked for refund

    <snip>

    Whilst that is shocking, and I have no reason to disbelieve you, quoting emails out of context can give a very unfair representation of an actual conversation.

    Personally, I usually stick with the same 2 or 3 companies I've been dealing with for 10-15 years - and none of them are Irish.

    Unless I can't get something with them. Because of this I recently went with an Irish company, and for an added expense I chose their "next day delivery" option, to be delivered by couriere. Turned out it was next day delivery - but only after the courier received the item (3 days later)!!!!

    These companies only hurt their own business and I prefer to pay for delivery from the UK (despite the expense) thanks to the excellent pre- and post-order customer service and no quibbles replacement of faulty items.

    i havent read your thread just the title.. but i have to say i find satworld most unhelpful

    i bought a triax trilink there last august and it failed 1 year and 2 weeks after purchase date so i phoned up and they were completely ignorant on the phone to me.. said one year is one year etc.. the trilink was installed in my parents house and has been out of action for a few weeks but i only got home last week to check it out.. i think its pretty lousy that they wouldnt do something on a product thats just out of warranty

    I could quote all the emails but to be honest it's more or less the same ignorant comments from them. Generally always buy from UK myself although there was an Irish company from claremorris who I dealt with in past who were excellent can't remember their name though. But as for the <snip> above I have learnt my lesson and will never use them again as I would imagine most who have dealt with them would not either

    I have dealt with for years and will continue to deal with Satworld. I have had never any problems with customer service or after sales service.

    You may as well have locked it as nobody can tell what the thread is about after your snipping spree.

    I think many would have read it in the 2 days that it has been active so hopefully most forum users here will be more knowledgeable on this company's practises

    Well I will have to take you at your word IrishChris as I cant tell either what went on given the censorship of the email content (which is very strange in my opinion). Do retailers who send emails to customers not realise that they may be made public ?

    Anyhow on the helpful side. I use a USB DVB-T stick with latest OE2 version of Blackhole on A Vu+Uno . It works out of the box no messing about. In general I find Blackhole excellent for DVB-T support as opposed to Vix which is excellent on the EPG but crap when it comes down to getting DVB-T devices working out of the box (even telnet commands combined with the live feeds failed for Vix for my device).

    The chipset is the IT9135.

    They look like this (about €7).

    f02695-hdtv-mini-dvb-t-digital-usb-tv-stick.jpg

    I find the sensitivity of these tuners not fantastic in poor reception areas. It is afterall a tiny board. I bought another USB DVB-T stick recently based upon the RTL2832U/R820T chipsets that does DAB, FM and DVB-T to see what if sensitivity would be any better, but haven't got it working yet. Again about €7.

    R820T-560x420.jpg

    Of course the DVB-T end (whatever about FM/DAB) will work when someone over at OpenPLI patches the driver with the appropriate kernel module.

    It is the second tuner in your post which i was commenting on buying from satworld not for 7e though but 24euro! It obviously is not compataible but like you say hopefully in future. And I may have been inclined to hold onto it only for satworlds language and manner in their emails to me. Anyway that's me done with satworld but thanks for the info on the other tuner above. I have picked up a playtv tuner on adverts.ie so will use it for now when it arrives tomorrow

    No worries. €24 jaysus. Those new FM/DAb/DVB-T Combi tuners are €7-8 incl free post from China on ebay. Wont be long before they are supported. Lots of interest in them among linux enthusiasts, here and recently here

    I gather you didn't have much luck with Sundtek.

    Another case of greed amongst Irish business I'm afraid. Hence reason most of these companies are closing down as people are being more thrifty with their money shipping online. Wish I had been - but my lesson has been learned.
    Sundtek still not working with DUO 2 at minute but they have said they will continue to work to get it going.

    No on-thread discussion of moderation - you are here long enough to know that. Warning given.

    @STB,

    Have you discovered any means of determining the chipset/tuner used in those USB dongles prior to purchase and plug-in?

    It would be most helpful if that could be done ... I had one for more than 6 months before it was supported in the kernel :(

    There were alternatives I could have chosen if I had been able to determine the chips used.

    Thanks.

    Someone else had the same apparent problem but found a solution with the supplier's help:

    I couldnt get it working on a VU Uno with the driver in the feeds nor opkg commands in telnet using Vix.

    Thats why I use Blackhole. USB DVB-T work out of the box, no messing about.

    Switch to Blackhole and see if it works.
