Selling Car - Whether to Repair before Sale

    Hi,

I have a 2006 1.4L Renault Megane saloon which was handed down to me. I got it through the NCT a couple of months ago and is in fairly good shape now, with the exception of a whining coming from the gear box. I've been advised it needs to be reconditioned or replaced, at a cost of around €750.

The car has 130k miles, so has done a bit of work. What I'm wondering is, am I likely to realise a better private sale value if I get the gearbox done and then sell, or sell it as is and advise the situation with the gearbox. The mechanic told me it could go for another few thousand miles at least before the gearbox actually gives in.

    Any advice appreciated.
