    Hi Guys,

I'm currently considering going to college as a mature student to do one of the above 3 year courses.

Can anyone give me any info on any of the above? Are they particularly full courses and are there many places for mature students?

Has anyone done one or in the middle of one at the moment? Thoughts on the course / career prospects? Is there anything you have liked to know before you started?

Is there anything I could do to increase my chances of getting into one of these courses? Any tips in general?

    Thanks!

    Hello Brian.

I studied Civil Engineering for 4 years from 03 to 07. Although i enjoyed the course, work in this country has been very hard come by. as i am sure you are aware any Engineering course is very Maths/Physics intensive and if you have not done Maths in a while i would look into a refresher course. I did applied Maths for 3 years of the course and there is nothing easy about them. you would want to be leaving Cert Higher level standard to hit the ground running. but that said with a good bit of work you will be grand.
I would say whatever collage or university you apply for will insist on a interview before letting you commence the course.

I do not have employment at the moment and see allot more opportunities for Electrical and or Mechanical Engineers in ireland.

Best of luck with whatever career path you follow and keep us posted on how you get on.
