If your tv is a recent model (within the past 5 years) there should be a usb port on it somewhere...

When you plug in a usb key or usb hard drive into this usb port on your tv... you can play mp3s, pictures and movies/tv shows from any usb key or usb hard drive that has media files on it all be using your tv remote.

Just make sure you have your media file organised as it can be slow to navigate between folders on your tv. Just have a folder with all your movies in it and then another for all your tv shows (in their own individual folders per show) etc. to keep it nice and tidy.

Some of the older tvs will only play mp3s and pictures... but like i say the newer tvs... especially samsung and LG tvs will play anything thrown at them.

As for downloading media to watch from the internet... its against the rules on boards to discuss that so im sorry i cant help you there... but google is your friend in researching that matter.

Thanks Access. I was looking at possibly purchasing an external harddrive to store everything on and hook up to TV from there.

Is there any make /model that you would recommend?

Any of the big names... Western digital/samsung/toshiba etc. Are all good. Just go for what you can afford. Portable hard drive is obvisiouly smaller and neater if a little more expensive... and external hard drives are bigger and need to be plugged into a power socket to power it up... unlike the portable hard drives which get their power through the usb cable from the tv or whatever they are plugged into.

To be honest either type would be fine.

Amazon uk is a place I would look as they normally beat any irish shop price and free delivery above £25. You could also look on adverts.ie too for a second hand one.

Just make sure you have a backup of your media somewhere else... like your mates house or parents house and back it up every month or so.

    Any other questions... just ask.
