Free Fees

Having completed year 1 of a level 8 course in LYIT, I have transferred into 2nd year of a similar course in NUIG. When I registered, however, it says that I owe the full tuition fee of €7500, including the student contribution. Does this mean that I am ineligible for the Free Fees Initiative, or will the relevant amount be deducted later?

I know that if I were to start a new course I would not be eligible for the first year, but does this still apply since I am progressing into 2nd year? I was under the impression that the government funded a maximum of 4 years of fees, and I will still only be completing 4 years.

In the event that I am not eligible, will the SUSI grant cover the tuition fees or just the Student Contribution? I received a full maintenance grant last year.

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

I think you should be eligible - You need to contact NUIG fees office and query that. Also ask NUIGSU for help if you need it.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
