Frustrated isn't the word! My dad's medical card is expired, he applied for a renewal months ago, they sent him a letter asking for more information, which he sent in then heard nothing. Expiration date came and went, still no card arriving in the post, my dad rings them to be told they haven't received the information so he'll have to send them in again. They graciously gave him another month of medical card as he is on a lot of essential medication and was running out. That was about 2 weeks ago, and my dad just got a letter this morning requesting the EXACT same information he has already sent in twice!! What is actually going on here? How do they keep losing information and how can we make sure they don't lose the next lot?!

Unfortunately there is no way to ensure they received it other than sending everything by registered post, keeping copies of the documentation, and making sure to keep the registration receipts. It's time consuming and costly but will at least give you some control.

This happened to me on numerous occasions and in the end I'd had enough of it, so I personally visited the offices and asked to speak to the person who required the info.
Only then did I hand it over.

Registered Post is the only option.

was unfortunate enough to have to deal with that crowd on behalf of my mother as far as I know all that work is outsourced from HSE now isn't it .

My mother has chronic Emphysema, and had cancer, and has a monthly medication list as long as your arm. I had to fight with them for 6 months to get her full medical card renewed.

The final straw was them sending out a response saying she will not be getting the full medical card, and the reason why section was left blank, I had to ring them and get put through to a girl who could also see on the system she had been denied a full medical card and no reason given.

I then had to send a letter to the appeals officer, explaining I had provided them every single item and request they had asked for, and that they couldn't even find a reason to turn her down, yet they still did.

1 week later 2 full medical cards came in the post one for her and one for my father. They were given for 2 years, I dread the thought of fighting for it again the next time round.

Even when you do send it registered it is just signed for by the post master as it goes to a PO box.

I used the contact form on the site for all queries, they always called me back even if it was just to request the same info. Every time I sent off items, I put my name and PPS number and 1 of 26, 2 of 26 etc.

    Send it by registered post.

Keep copies of everything you send.

Ring them a day or two after the tracker says they received it to check if they got it.

Also consider lodging a complaint to the ombudsman.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I had a nightmare 2 years ago - they kept asking for the same info over and over, then when they received it told me it was not current enough for them. They *lost* a bank statement and pension payslip. I eventually had to contact the Data Protection Agency who told me that there had been quite a few other incidents similar to mine.

Apparently there is a designated data protection officer who deals solely with the HSE...says it all really.....

Interesting. Might go down that route if it happens again. Annoying thing is my dad can't find the documents they're looking for again, his memory is a bit poor and he doesn't know where he put the so we're delayed again and the medical card is due to expire again soon. They want a copy of his car registration and we have no idea why?
