Prices tend to take account of motor tax rates, so you generally end up paying one way or another. There is value to be found in some cars with very high tax bills, where the market has overcompensated for the tax.

Motor Tax is a very small integrate part of running a performance car, I wouldn't let it dictate what you buy.

VAG 1.8t's - Audi TT, S3, A4 etc are all quite good that way.

Also available in a range of Seat's and Skoda's.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

All those Subaru Impreza WRX Sti / Mitsubishi Evos were relatively cheap to tax under the old system.

Drink petrol and impossible to insure, though.

Alfa Romeo made a 2.0 V6 Turbo engine that was available in the GTV and the 166. Only ever sold in Italy as far as I know, but I know of one example of each on the road over here.

    Fiat Bravo 1.4 t-jet

150BHP from 1.4 engine with tax of 385 per annum.

0-100km/h (0-62mph) in 8.2 sec, which IMHO is pretty good.

Mitsubishi FTO mivec, 200bhp from a 2 litre that weighs 1200kg.

Great to drive and relatively cheap to drive. The only downside is insurance cost....... if you can get insurance on it that is.

Going for peanuts lately as well.

The VAG 1.4 170bhp would be on 385 euro tax, super+turbocharged, but there are rumors about unreliable timing chains, and they weren't sold in great numbers.

IMO the RX8 is probably the best example of this (Especially if you find one that is taxed (as it should be) as a 1.3
