Scrapping Irish reg car in Britain

If you scrap an Irish reg car abroad, it is just a case of sending the registration cert and foreign notification of destruction to the motor tax office in Ireland to notify them that the car is no more?

why would you bother? if you have a CoD you can produce it if needed, but the car is out of the jurisdiction already.
