Will chip in and recommend this from personal experience. My family were in a write-off accident which broke three of my OH's vertebrae. Our 4 year old, in the Britax, literally walked away without a scratch. We replaced the car seat with an identical model.

Got an offer for Flubit of £63.90 with free shipping to Parcelmotel. Dunno if it's too big for ParcelMotel though.

Edit: It's gone up on amazon to £85

same here with this particular seat but it cost 10.50 to pick it up in Finglas thus making the amazin deal better. Not a bad seat but the fastening mechanism is poor compared to the maxicosi we had

Britax Evolva Plus Forward Facing Group 1/2/3 Car Seat (Black Thunder) - £63.30

Works out at €83.11 Delivered. Which is a great price as it's €183 on Amazon France, €159 Germany, €199 Italy , and €361.65  on Amazon Spain.

My sister has just bought her car seat and buggy, but i'm going to show her this anyway.
It looks fairly comfortable in the video, although i can't imagine too many kids still using it when they're 12 and getting a lift up to secondary school :pac:.

    • Side Impact Protection with deep, softly padded side wings
    • 5-point safety harness with one pull adjustment for children from 9 to 18kg

Thanks for that. Can't you cancel your origial order? Just about to order another one of these when I noticed the 'Plus' model is the same price so I picked that instead - great price. Basically the same as the standard one but can recline without needing to remove the seat....

Since I ordered I see it's now saying delivery is within 1 to 2 months, but worth the wait if you don't need the seat right away.

+1 about the reclining problem that SteamBoat mentioned.

    It "barely" reclines backwards.

My 9 month old sons head flops forward when he goes to sleep in this car seat.
I've ended up putting a wedge shaped cushion underneath it to tilt it backwards more.

So the "plus" model is definitely worth seeking out.

Good seat, got the non plus version 2 years ago, never a bother with it and the young lad is happy out in it since.
Think it was even cheaper in the sale in smyths when i bought it back then but still a good child seat for the current price.

Thanks steam boat. Yeah I was able to cancel with flubit. And ordered with amazon. Wish I'd seen your post earlier about the plus version and now it seems to be out of stock

Was wondering what the difference was. i hate seeing them flopped forward

Haven't looked properly but if it reclines id definitely go for it. Great price for that seat.

Does it recline?Would it not be hard to do that if its against the back seat of the car?

There is a 123 that reclines. Not sure if its this one though. I have a 123 and its grand but it doesnt recline so when my 1 year old falls asleep her head drops forward. I also have a group 1 and the recline is great.

I only grudge I have is Maxi-Axiss can be set only behind driver. I normally set the seat behind passenger. Did you have this issue as well ?

Why does it have ta go on the driver's side? Does it not rotate to both sides?

seat fits behind passenger and driver seats in 4 cars I have tried it in. Audi A3, Nissan Qashqai, Renault Laguna and VW Passat

    have a look here

Its by far the best seat we have ever had and the ease of getting the child in and out and also the fact that it reclines is just great

You all may be aware of this already but for any who aren't -
It is now recommended to keep your child rear facing for as long as possible as it is 5 times safer than forward facing.

Scandinavian children are rear facing until they are 4–5 years old (25kg or 55lbs), which has resulted in a much lower number of children injured or dead in car accidents compared with other countries, as for instance the UK. In the US they recommend up to age 2 at least but some people think this age needs to be increased.

Check out the following link for reasons why.
    http://www.rearfacing.co.uk/facts.php

I don't know why it is so hard to buy rear facing second stage seats in Ireland and the UK, some say it is a viscous circle of consumers not wanting to buy them because they aren't widely available and shops not selling them because there isn't a demand for them but there are definitely some around.

I think rearward seating is very disorientating. Also a kid seating rearward will have problems eating crisps or bottle of juice due to motion sickness. I know that giving anything to kids while car is in motion is not good but lets face it as truth. A kid in car will want munchies if he/she cannot sleep or is bored sitting at one place too long. A Dublin-Cork trip is abt 3 hrs non-stop and there are not many rest stops on way.

Hence there is preference for forward seating child. I know safety comes first But in Ireland where seat belt for rear passengers is still a novelty.
How do you expect such a cultural shift in 5-10 yrs unless its built into law.

if my 4 yr old was in a rear facing seat, where would his legs go? My 6mts old barely fits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,797 ✭✭✭sweetie

I had a Be-safe rear facing seat for my daughter. It would only fit in one position in our car (a peugot 5008 mpv) and was difficult to get her into and remove when we needed the space. Then she ran out of room for her limbs!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 754 ✭✭✭Weyhey

Hey this isn't a debate on rear facing versus forward facing. I just mentioned it for those who may be not aware that rear facing is recommended or even available after stage one / Group 0. I certainly didn't know this a year ago and lots of parents I have talked to also never heard of it.

As for answers to questions such as where do the child's legs go, easy of use, boredom, motion sickness etc. to avoid going off topic just google them - you will find lots of people have asked the same questions and lots of answers to them too.

Solution: buy the front facer but just drive everywhere on reverse.

Ye we bought a proper rear facing seat for justsomebaby a few months ago and the problem is, that here in Ireland it just isn't the done thing even with the recommendation for rear facing car seats. We only found one on the Irish market and that was in Motercare and they even had to use us as guinea pigs to see how to fit it.

After that we were going to have to import one and get installed up north.

The other issue is that these seats won't fit properly in every car so instead of getting a seat to fit the car you nearly have to get a car to fit the seat.
