    Its that simple.

    I don't want to buy a car/kart and a mechanic.

I don't want to try gather 12 friends and have a day out.

    I want to race.

Is there anywhere that does leagues/cups ,whether its karts or ka's, where you don't have to own the vehicle?

    Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply.

That's why i posted. I'm clueless as to where and how to get involved.

I wouldn't have the budget or the space for owning a car/kart and i'd probably want to start with karting.

Is there any clubs/leagues/cups out there that are arrive and drive and taken seriously?

Might not be up your street but it is possible to hire cars for autotesting. Ken irwin rents a top running car, and would be giving driving advice during the day.

    More details here.

Here is a promo for autotesting. Gives a good idea of whats involved

Ps. You can also double drive on events. Since the events are at one venue and 1 at a time on tests, 2 drivers can enter in the same car, so if you had a friend interested you could go 50/50 on everything.

http://www.pallaskarting.com/ do a grand prix day. You need at least 12 people (I think) and it's €50-60 a head.

The group is broken up into heats and you go on to have semi finals and finals. A good day of racing and if you're good you get something like 3 races. I think Pallas have the fastest hire karts in the country from what I can see too.

The op specifically said he didn't want to round up people. Hire karting isn't exactly a competitive motorsport either unless your over in the uk in the 100club or endurance races. Even if there were championships over here the tracks would have to do a lot of work, i havnt been to a track yet were there wasnt huge differences in the quality of karts, there is always fast karts, ok ones and piles of crap at every track.

Also pallas run 8hp karts, plenty of places use them, including kart city as of a few weeks ago. Some places even have twin engine hire karts.

Pallas is a great track and people should defo go, (ive been a few times and its defo in the top 5 best tracks in the country) but i wouldn't say its home to the fastest karts.

They're just once off unorganised events though.

I'm looking for an amateur club or league. Or is it a case of only being able to participate if you own a kart?

I was there a few weeks back, I was in kart #11 initially. Was a second quicker around the place than a lad that's normally a few tenths faster than me at home and at least 3 seconds quicker than everyone else. It just tore away from everyone else on the straights. But apart from that one ridiculously quick kart (relatively speaking), the rest were pretty even in power (some wanted to steer left or right though).

Great track though, would highly recommend it!

It's competitive enough if you have a few of your friends racing with you.

Last I saw Pallas were using 13hp karts but looking at the pictures on the website now it looks like they've changed the kart since I was there last. The old kart was bigger and had none of that plastic surround on them.

If you want to take part in leagues I would assume you'd need your own car/kart or know someone who will hire one.

If there are no open organised championships in Ireland how can it be competitive motorsport. Competitive motorsport doesn't mean that you have a bit of a good race with a mate while messing about in a hire kart. it means competing in structured championships with rules and regulations and racing etiquette.

There are hire kart championships in the uk that use professionally maintained equipment, run proper driver and technical regs and bring the karts round to different tracks, that doesn't exist in ireland so there are no open competitive hire karting championships in ireland.

Something like this would be amazing to have over here
