My partner is starting in UCD in Sept. - he was registering and noticed they were charging tuition fees. I looked into it and it may be because he started but did not complete a level 6 course (3-4 years ago). If this is the case, is there any way to appeal, or is it possible that the grant will cover tuition fees (I know it does in certain circumstances) - he never received a grant before.
Thanks for the help - we tried phoning UCD and the Dept. of Ed. but everyone is on lunch.

Yes - if he started a course 3-4 years ago he has to pay full tuition fees - you have to be 5 years out of education to get a second lot of free tuition fees

He won't get a grant either

students who have been verifiably absent from 3rd level education for a minimum of 5 years since attempting, but not completing, a first-time degree AND who belong to one of the above categories may be considered “second chance” i.e. eligible for a further round of funding under the Free fees Initiative.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

This is the most insane thing I've ever heard. SUSI already sent out looking for documents, think they would have noticed.
    Thanks for the reply.

He completed an access course this year - level 6 - would this make him eligible for the free fees having since completed a level 6. & grand wise, can he get a tuition fee grant or only maintenance? Thanks again.

then I don't think there is any issue - he needs to talk to the fees office and query it
