I am playing a match later today at 17:40.

Do you think a 2ball playing matchplay could finish before it gets to dark?

Should be ok as long as its not too slow ahead of you. Just make sure you win by the 12th and you'll be ok :)

Sunset is 20:40 now so you'll I'd doubt you will get the full 18 in.
Even with a free course ahead of you, you would be doing well to complete a 2 ball match play in 3 and a bit hours.

Have a look at the time sheet to see what groups are ahead of you.
If it's in anyway full of 3 balls or 4 balls then you'll be looking at a big win to get it done in time.

You should have no problems. I played 18 holes in a 3 ball yesterday teeing off at 4.40 and we were finished in loads of time. As long as you don't go to 6 or 7 additional holes you'll be grand!

    He's teeing off at 20 to 6.
I'd if he's lucky with the course traffic he'll just about get the 18 in I would say, an extra hole would be pushing it.

Maybe it just my place, but I gave up trying to get 18 midweek holes in a while ago. In fact, it was even a struggle during the longest days (where I'd be out approx 5:45)
From my experience, a 4 ball will let you through (but probably a hole or 2 after they should really have done so, costing us 10-15 mins) and a 3 ball will just pick up their pace a small bit rather than letting you through.

OP, maybe ask the ranger to give you a helping hand with it if the match needs to be concluded.
Best of luck and let us know how it goes.

I played a match on Tuesday in 2.45. Would have been quicker only we got stuck behind some slow ladies on last 3. We finished the match on 17th and played up 18th, still finished in 2.45. We weren't running between shots either, just got on with it.

A 2 ball matchplay shouldn't go over 3 hours (provided its not more than 18 holes)

Looks like there will be a good few 3balls in front of us. but by teeing of at 17:40 we are giving them a 20 min head start on us so hopefully that will be enough. The other bad thing is I will have to give the person im playing against 12 shots. :(

Played a match play last week with a relatively free course, Tee off at 17:15 finished on the 19th at 20:50 luckily :) as we would not have been able to play the 20th.
Granted it was an overcast evening...

At least it looks like it will be a bright evening. That should give us 10 extra mins.:)

12 shots, ouch! Best of luck. Lovely evening for it anyway.

I played a 2 ball stroke play last Sat and it took 2 hrs 35 mins with a free course in front of us. Dont see why you wouldnt get the 18 in if you got a good run at the course without being held up

Played front 9 of Ballykisteen yesterday morning in around 1hr 20min with none in our way, we had to check out of the hotel however reckon it would have been around 2hr 45min had we had the time to complete....bit of a culture shock as I'm used to 3/4 ball and 4 hour rounds

might be a struggle if its a tight match I'd say, especially if you've a few groups ahead

As mentioned, just blitz the guy, should be no issues then

Got the match finished before it got dark only because it ended on the 15th. might have played 2 more holes before it became unplayable. We got held up behind 3balls but would have easily got the 18 holes finished had we not got stuck behind them. I even was lucky enough to win the match, didn't play great but just beat what was in front of me. :)
